HAHA Mac....
Actually I use either 91 or 93 octane in the Nad.
I could use octane booster I suppose as well.
With the freaking job market finding a job has turned into a nightmare.
I used to think the IT market was secure...NOT.
As soon as I can afford one I will get a fuel processor to get rid of the ping and make this bike run like it should...
Thanks Much... :)

Last winter was hell for any work here, so I hear that. Never the less you will pay the price of a TFI or Cobra in one bottle of goo at a time.

Look on ebay. post WTB adds here, and other sites. My first TFI was used and cheaper for it.

If your bike pings on hi test you NEED a modual bad.

Clayton, there is a mod that is much less expensive that a FI controller that will richen your bike up. I think all the details are on Gadgets site. You buy a resistor at radio shack for about $1 and you add it to the Air Temp Sensor circuit. It makes the the reading indicate the air is colder (more dense) than it really is and the ECU then calls for a little extra fuel and that fixes your lean condition based spark knock. It is not as user friendly as an adjustable FI Controller but I know several people that have done the mod and never gone on to the controller. Each bike is a little different and there are a couple different size resistors people have settled on based on how lean the particular bike is in stock form. A soldering iron, some shrink tube and a couple dollars worth of resistors and in an hour you might be cured or at least you'd have some improvement?

Trosco, I know about that mod, and consider it as Gadjet does to be temp, which this could be. The draw back is it adds fuel when no addition fuel is wanted.

Having to choose a part over food sucks. I been there many times.

I had to sacrifice fine Scotch for two weeks in order to afford a TFI. That sucked as well. At the time I thought I was going to die, but I made it

ride that puppy and don't waste your money on phoney additives. good fuel has all the good stuff in it. the additive companies love to prey on folks like us. i never put nothin in my bikes, but good gas and good oil. never a problem as long as you ride them on a regular basis. carb bikes can't sit long without gumming the carbs. if the fuel evaporates in the bowl it will usually cause pilot jets to clog. use stablizer if your going to let it sit. stay away from all that crap that is on the market. most of it may work but most is a gimmick. by the way i ride about 24,000 miles a year and do the required maintenance on 4 bikes and have no problems. spend that money on neat stuff for your bike. bill

Kawhead said he gave up "fine" scotch for two weeks, not scotch entirely. However, I'd like to know what kind of "fine" scotch is worth about $100 bucks a week!

I know whom I'm drinking with!!

Mac, I did that resistor mod several years ago. went from 500 to a 1500 (max recommended) resistor. In the cooler months it stopped most of the pinging but when the temps went past 90 nothing worked. TFI stopped it all.

There is a barametric sensor under the steering head plastic covers that I wondered about messin' with but decided against it and got the TFI..

Menard's has Seafoam for under $7 a can. That the cheapest I've ever seen it.

Maybe you're doing it now, but I would pinch and save and get the fuel processor asap and open up the air intake.
You're waiting for them to get it in at the Dollar Store...

Colder plugs helped out a lot with mine. The only time mine pings now is when the temps get over 100 degrees.
