Fuse for the pump? Pull the gas line at the FI to see it pumps? before you spend money?

If the Fuel pump isn't heard, check all the fuses, could be that simple. That should have been checked at the very start. Seen folks stumped by a non-running bike, when they accidently hit the kill switch.
Theres a basic troubleshooting section in the front of all the repair manuals, and its not there for looks, if folks would only read them....

The fuel pump runs for about 4-5 seconds after turning the key on. Won't start with a jump box connected to battery. Bike will run when we spray starting fluid into the throttle body then dies when the starting fluid is used up.

Disconnected the fuel line from pump, turned key on and a small amount of fuel trickles out, not enough to pressurize the system.

Pulled the tank and took fuel pump out going to order a new pump from Quantum.
The factory pump did not have a filter or screen in the tank.

Thats the reason pump has gone out or is weak....non-filtered fuel....

Wow, if it's running it's pressurizing.

It shuts off once the correct pressure is reached.

At least that is how it's supposed to work in theory.

Hmmm. Fish around in the tank a bit. The filter should be attached to the pump. They're actually hard to remove if it's an OEM pump. I would guess you've sucked in a lot of junk over time with no filter.

Yea, makes me think some screwball has been in it before, either a so-called mechanic or a owner, had problems and 1/2 assed it....MAS & I have dealt with this kinda crap before, too many times....
They might've used a cheap plastic canister filter thats long since desolved, broken into small pieces, and been pulled in by the pump....or just didn't use one at all....

No one has been in the tank before. He bought the bike new and a no one has worked on it but me and him and this was the first time the pump was removed.
I was surprised no fuel filter or screen. On the parts diagram they don't even show any, What was Kawasaki thinking?

Kawi wants to sell you a whole new pump when all you might need is a filter, so they tell you you can't replace it. And, what they want you to pay makes the Mafia loan sharks look like choir boys. It's outrageous.

The old 'yea, I gotta strainer for a filter' scenario, yea, seen that before....
I'm with Tortuga on that one....$200+ from Kawa, $69 from HiFlowFuel....
It is outrageous....

Well I installed the new fuel pump this morning and the bike started right up and ran great.
After riding it Rick said it feels like it has a little more acceleration. Pump may have been slowing dying for some time is my guess. The old fuel strainer had some dirt on it but not bad, we put the new one in that came with the pump.

Good that you found the problem, but I thought you said there was no filter/strainer when you took the OEM pump out.
