Anyone here having to deal with Ike?

We will be dealing with it here at my work location for quite a while. Pictured are my manager in the stripes and co workers in the blue Nomex.

Anyone here having to deal with Ike?

My daughter (in Huntsville) said the last time she saw this many houses with trees in them was during Christmas!

We are VERY lucky that my in-laws live close and are some of the very few who have power and we are currently staying with them. So many trees and fences down around here (north Houston).

Blue Tongue posted on TxVROC. Said he and Marla OK and he's talked to LW. No word yet from Smitty.

Anyone here having to deal with Ike?

In Deer Park, we lost several shingles that resulted in several roof leaks.
Lost an oak tree and a pecan tree.
Other than that we were blessed with power last night, God is good!
Also the cool front that moved in today is really nice.

I'm just glad it's over.

Scott

Anyone here having to deal with Ike?

Got a message from my mate who is working over there at the moment, sounds like everyone is a little busy!

"Touching base with you all from Dallas Tx and still in the middle of Hurricane IKE operations. I have been lucky in that I have been placed in a Planning Chief role here in Dallas in the Emergency Operations Centre. A challenge, and I am learning heaps, but holding my own. On top of providing shelter operations for over 1500 evacuee guests here, we were confronted with the possibilities of Tropical Storms through Dallas yesterday (IKE took a pathway further east and Dallas avoided much of the rain) but planning for it was intense early in the day. On top of that the City of Dallas has been requested to support Houston in its recovery and we are currently planning for a 90 person 40 vehicle self contained contingent to head to Houston tomorrow. Another interesting challenge in itself in sending City employees into what is effectively a military environment. There are very limited resources in Houston All in all an interesting day at the office."

Do you guys ever get used to this stuff? all we have are bushfires and the occasional earthquake.

Stay Safe!

I've never lived anywhere that's been flooded like this. I can't even imagine what it must be like. Hang in there, folks.

I'm praying that all of our members are safe, and it is good to hear from many of them. Shoot TB, that is a lot of water. CJ, usually when you see that much water, it's hauling tail down a wash in a flash flood. In Oct '83 I watched a wall of water about 50 ft wide take half of a bridge out. Keep us informed about the flooding and power and everything else.

Anyone here having to deal with Ike?

As I am the DR guy for Gulf States Toyota, I rode out the storm with about 15 co-workers at our headquarters. The wife and kids were at home and our house is fine. The house got power Sat night as we are on the west side in Katy - I feel very fortunate.

Work is another story - been on generator since 11:38pm Friday and have been dealing with tree debris, glass and building issues. We are still at work, but I have had a chance to get home twice.

I'm so proud of how Houston and Galveston and surrounding areas have responded...everfone is stepping up and there is no entitlement mentality like New Orleans. As far as those that needed rescue in the middle of the storm after being repeatedly requested to leave - I figure it's Darwin at work.

I've lived on the coast most of my life - been through several Hurricanes, and this is the highest water I can recall - this is also the fastest recovery I have ever seen.

Wonderful job Texas!!!!

Well, believe it or not the remnants of Ike went through here last night. It converged with a cold front moving in from the west and gave us 60 mph winds. I'm running the generator now to be on line and stuff.
My place is still standing, the power authority says 135000 without power. No where near as bad as down south but an annoyance to be sure.

Anyone here having to deal with Ike?

TC, my dad lives in Dayton, Ohio. It went through there yesterday afternoon late. He called on his cell phone to tell me about it.Their power was out, and trees doen and debris all over his neighborhood. Nothing like down south, but as you said, an annoyance to be sure.
