Helmets - Yes or No.

Do what you want to do, but just don't expect me or my tax money to pay for your trauma bill, nursing home care, dependent care, etc.

Helmets - Yes or No.

There have been four m/c accidents in my town of Hampstead, NH which is a small town. Of the four crashes there were three fatalities, and two of the three were women passengers. One young male (not wearing a helmet) and speeding lost control and hit a pickup truck head on and died instantly. A woman passenger on a Harley with her husband was killed instantly when a driver in an SUV crossed the center line and hit two bikes; she died instantly - they both wore helmets.... The most stupid accident occurred after a husband & wife left a bar drunk on a Harley and he lost control and hit a guard rail. His wife landed in the road and he was not seriously hurt. After three days on life support, she died.... Driving a m/c is inherently dangerous. Driving without a helmet is very dangerous and driving drunk is totally stupid. I have been riding for forty years; never without a helmet. Its like an insurance policy! Brickguy

I don't like being told I MUST wear a helmet, to protect my own, stupid head. My wife and I almost always wear helmets, even when in a state that doesn't require it, but, we hate being told by some yuppy politician sitting behind a desk that we have to!

Michigan requires helmets to be worn by everyone on a bike over 150cc's. I personally don't care if you want to ride without one but please don't ask me to pay your medical bills if something happens to you. I currently have a full face helmet in the garage that has major road rash on the left side. My head was in this helmet on 9/9/09 at 9:09am when it received its rash. I walked out of the ER later that day and went home with a severely bruised left hip and a broken clavicle. Leather is your friend in this situation and I had zero road rash on my body. The clavicle has healed and the hip now has some arthritis in it but I am alive today because I had the proper gear on. It was harder to get mentally up to get back in the saddle and I'm a lot more aware of everything while riding now.

Loafer got it right.

Perhaps if I were alone I would choose not to wear one. But I have a wife and two young boys that depend on me. I wear one for them.

It's a simple matter, you protect what's important to you. I currently wear a full-face helmet.

+1 to that. Can't convince my wife to do that though.

Never say it can't happen to me! My brother on his Harley on a state road by him self cut a corner to close to the center line and half way around a truck was doing the same. No helmet = two 3 inch cuts on the left side of his face to the bone and his scalp from his forehead peeled back 4 inches, his lip had to be put back on, not to mention his left hand broken in 4 places. Many other cuts and gouges and he was only going 50 miles per hour. The truck never hit him but a fast retreat from the center of the road put him in the ditch. He had 2 helmets at home.

I will always ware a helmet and my wife will also. But I do agree that it should be the choice of the rider and not the government, in Alabama the law stated that all are required to ware a helmet. Just a helmet can be any type of a helmet. Road to Thunder Beach a couple of years ago had a great time road with out a helmet down there then won't do it anymore, as many have said got a Friend who did not went down and cant remember what happened. maybe he could if he had one on may not but. so that all from me on this.

I wear a helmet.

I would surely die from the injuries inflicted by my wife if I didn't...

I ware a helmet all the time except when I visit Myrtle beach putting around town.I do think a helmet does help in a crash .but I do support the choice to wear one or not.

Maybe there are some things that we should not have a say in, or a choice. Especially when it means it effects us all with increased insurance costs and costs to take care of the poor bastard that chose not to put a brain bucket on. Just my thoughts. My motto ......"all the gear all the time"....probably not original but one I like to go with. With maybe one exception at times........leather leg chaps.

When I'm in KY or SC I sometimes choose to go without.
The point is I choose.

I vote yes for a helmet. I have wiped out quite a few times (mainly dirt bike riding) and although none have been spectacular, helmet, gloves and a leather jacket have always been greatly appreciated! No matter what your skill, conditions or a cager can ruin your day and it makes no sense not being prepared for the worst.

In Australia it's mandatory in all states to wear a helmet, if it wasn;t I would still wear one.
The stupid thing is that I could ride in nothing but my underwear as long as I have a helmet on my head, all safety gear on M/C's should be mandatory at all times in my opinion.
Cheers
Greeny
