I know this is an old thread and that is the exact reason that I resurrected it. I will be changing my clutch spring this winter and the old question " Do I really need it " is popping up in my head. So I would be very interested in how 3 years later everyones clutch springs are doing. So far here is what I'm reading
Barnett spring no Judges washers Mean Streak w/ J-washers Mean Streak no J-washers (Mean Streak now being OEM) I know there have been a couple guys who have done Barnett and J- washers. Maybe they can chime in too.

Clutch spring
I did the Barnet Spring last June, didn't do Judges washers. The old spring was toast, slipping pretty bad. Had 44K when I did it. At first I thought the new spring was gonna kill my hand, stalled it a dozen times until I got used to it. Was like a whole new bike. Now have 51K with no problems. Would do it again.. Took about 3 hours. 2001 1500 Nomad.

I'm with Tim. I'm going to have a look at my clutch this Spring when I take the bike out of hibernation. I want to do the job just because......... and I'll simply replace the spring with an OEM since it's done me just fine all these miles now, even with pulling my trailer for two seasons along with my wife.

Went with the Barnett but replaced the spring washers with stock ones from Kawasaki. Stiff as hell but it hooks up very good. I wanted to keep the smoother downshifting with the stock washers with shaft drive and running dark side on the rear. Didn't want to wear out the gears and joints on the shaft.

I put in the mean streak spring about 30,000 miles ago. Still going strong.

Did a new spring ,a set of my clutch washers and new Barnett frictions about 2 yrs. ago. 18K on them and it still hooks up good. Only think I don't like is that the clutch doesn't engage until the lever is almost completely out. Wish there was an adjustment for this. Maybe I'll try bleeding it out in the spring.

Well since the both of you were at that time talking of redoing your clutch springs. I would be interested in how your clutch springs are holding up and Jared, which way you decided to go. I already know TopCat went OEM no washers.

I did the Mean Streak Spring and OEM Washers with 15,000 miles , shifting and engaging still smooth. About a year ago just to see I pulled the Mean Streak Spring off and installed the Barnett Spring. I pulled it off and re-installed the Mean Streak Spring. The Reasons: 1. clutch lever pull had to many pull lbs. when using Barnett Spring. 2. rear tire grabbed (in a almost locked position example) when down shifting. At least for our personal riding pleasure , I like a smooth shift. You can try both as the cost is minimal for the Two Springs and see for yourself. I looked into a Company who sells a modification. Its about $200 and the Company's name is http://www.turbotecusa.net/ Interesting reading.
