Just another reason I renew my tags online. I don't know about the DMV where you live, but here the DMV waiting area is like Ellis Island. I am afraid of contracting tuberculosis or hepatitis at the DMV.
I just busted out laughing at work!!! Between that and Boss Hog, I just lost it!!! Thanks for that! Yes, normally I renew my truck online but when I got the renewal notices in the mail, they said I have to bring the bike up there. There was no price for the renewal as they couldnt verify the approximate value of the bike. Since this is my first renewal I guess I have to jump thru the hoops. Weird.

In Alabama, everything goes by the age, weight, and value of the vehicle. When someone sells things person to person here it is usually for about $100-$500 on paper, even tho it actually cost $5K. Thats because no one wants to pay the state for registering the dang thing. I sold a car to my dad for $200!! My 2001 Dodge Ram 4x4 costs me $60 but the bike will probably be closer to $80.

It depends on the value of the bike. Since we have no sales tax you pay more for license plates. I bought my 07 last year and it cost me $82 for permanent plates. I also have permanent tags on my GMC Yukon. Any car/truck over 10yrs old you can get permanent tags for the equivalent of three yrs of license fees. But like on a new 50K Truck, that would cost like $600 per year for plates for the first 5 yrs. then as it depreciates the plates go down.

At least I was able to get the tag yesterday. Only $60 a year. Thank Goodness it wasnt Robert E Lee's birthday Or Forrest Gump's for that matter!
