One touch of the brake to much
Yesterday I had a little incident that marred my whole day. First off I ignored my wife's advice to take the car to work due to the rain. (Luckily she is not the nagging type so I will only hear about this part when she tells the story to friends.)
I was riding in to work with a fairly hard rain in the dark with minimal visibility. I had left a bit more room between myself and the car in front of me and when traffic slowed to pull into the packed exit lane onto the interstate I was fine. But I noticed that traffic was not just slowing but stopping. Instead of using the margin of room I had left I applied a touch more brake. It seemed like instantly the rear tire caught up with the front tire and I felt my head bouncing off the pavement. My first thought was that I couldn't get out of the way of any cars behind. (They stopped luckily.) My next was that I had ruined my bike and wouldn't be able to meet my sister and her husband for a three day ride at the end of the month. Now for the good part. I was wearing frog toggs and they are barely abraded so I must have been at almost a dead stop. The Nomad isn't even scratched. I climbed back on after picking it up and kept on going to work. The only damage to the Nomad was that I bent the engine guard, nothing else not even a scratch I can find. Later that day I used a pry bar and straightened the engine guard. Glad you and your bike are Ok. I have been thinking about getting some Frog Toggs. I think I will get some now after this story.

You are one unbelievably lucky person. Buy that Lotto ticket before it wears off.
