Clutch Spring Question
Hi All, I have read alot about cluth slippage. I have a 2000 Nomad that the clutch is slipping in, I have purchased a set of Barnett fiber plates, cover gasket and have a set of Judge's washer coming shortly. I need to know what clutch spring would be best, a Meanie spring or a Barnett HD spring. Thanks in Advance, Birdman

Clutch Spring Question
Where did you get the Judge's washers? I just installed a Barnett spring in my clutch yesterday, but haven't put enough miles on it to decide if I like it yet.

Clutch Spring Question
Birdman
I installed and meanie spring and Judges washers this past winter and my clutch hooks up better than it ever has. You will be happy with this setup. I have no experience with Barnett springs.

Clutch Spring Question
CJ, I talked to Judge Friday and he told me he would have some sets ready this week some time. I am hopeful that they will be here by the weekend.

Clutch Spring Question
Lomax, thanks for this info, all I want is for the clutch to really hook, so I will probably go with the Meanie spring since I can get one form a friend who had a spare for his Meanie that he sold. :)

Clutch Spring Question
Im using a meanie spring and Judges washers as well and it works very well. But I think if I did a lot of two up riding with a trailer Id try the Barnett spring.

Clutch Spring Question
I also have a 2000 and have Judge washers on order. Just e-mailed him and got a reply the next day. My meanie spring and gaskets came in yesterday.
Can't wait to get this done. |

Clutch Spring Question
Quote:
The Barnett spring is very stiff, and while that isn't a problem in and of itself, I find that it doesn't completely disengage the clutch, even with the lever mashed against the grip. And when starting off it grabs by the time you barely release the lever. No free-play, in other words. So the jury is still out on this one. UPDATE: I tried adjusting the travel on the clutch lever - the little knob on top of the lever marked from 1-5. It was set at "5", the closest to the grip so I moved it to "1", that gave me all the travel I needed. I set it to "2" and it works great. Now I have all the lever travel I need and the clutch fully disengages. Now it feels and acts like a clutch should!
