Power Outlet Wiring
I am going to wire in an outlet to power my ipod primarily and someday maybe a gps. I know I should include an inline fuse but how big should the fuse be. 10? 15? What is the amerage limit of the circuit in the headlight bucket? It wouldn't make sense to have a fuse that is larger that the circuit.

All I would think you need to do is catch the hot lead in the bucket, I power a phone and GPS off that lead with no problems, there isn't much of a power draw with those items. That line is also fused with the bike fuse. I also have used the cig lighter which draws some current and have never had a problem. That line is always hot.

The accessory lead in the headlight bucket is already fused at 10 amps at the main fuse panel. That's sufficient for your purpose unless you plan on powering a compressor or arc welder

Ya know a generator in the saddlebag would come in handy.

Cj has it. The acc wires are rated at 10 amps... A lighter is on a circuit that would draw 15, and a lighter will run on this 10 amp service, long enough to get hot and pop, the way a lighter does..
