New law in NC

I just read about this on the VROC forums.
I don't understand why the politicians are trying to pass so many laws targeting motorcycles exclusively.

This Bill was file yesterday. Please contact your house rep. And tell
them what you think of this bill or you may not be able to chose who
goes riding with you. (spouse, kids or grandchildren) go to
http://www.ncleg.net/gascripts/membe...sChamber=House
Here you will find a list of reps. Find yours and click on the name
and the next page you will be able to find the email or contact
information you will need.

Just yet another example of the government protecting us from ourselves.

Just something else for the police to watch out for rather than pursue the real criminals I guess.

They were talking of passing a similar law here a few weeks ago, I havn't heard any more about it, so Im hoping it got shot down in its first reading. I really liked taking the kids for a ride when I go out. They have both been on bikes with me since they were about 4 years old.

Usually this type of law seems to starts with a divorcee not wanting her ex to take the kids for a ride. (as they say in the Simpsons... "Won't somebody think of the children?!")

My 9 year old is as big as some teenagers and he loves to ride. I'm sorry, but this is starting to go too far.

I don't see any groundswell for support for it around here....looks like one of those "my cause" kinda bills he introduced.....hope it dies a pretty quick death.....

I looked up the guy who is sponsoring the bill... an Insurance agent at his real job. Think he might have been hit up for a large insurance claim or the insurance lobby?

Never happy about any helmet laws either, though I wear mine regularly. Just something wrong about being told I need to wear it!

Another fine example of our govt worrying about things that they shouldn't be!

Nah, the ins. lobby isn't behind it...and a claim wouldn't really affect the agent much at all (maybe 1 bonus or something).....most likely he knew someone or has a large contributor that knows someone that got hurt somewhere along the line.

What a shame....Louisiana law states that the passenger must be at least 5 yrs old.

My best friend started taking his son out at 4 using this harness.

My daughter starts this year at 4 as well, and she has been bugging me for the last few months about riding, so no keeping her off this year.
