A friend came over today on his harley, to use the torch, to blow out a hole in his baffels.........he got done with the torch work and reached up and hit the starter.... fortunately, it didn't start right off, and he let off the button quick enough that it didn't fall or otherwise, because it had no kickstand switch... it was in gear and ready to go..... if it had started, it wouldn't have been pretty.. I thought all bikes had a kickstand safety switch... But, I guess not....

I was annoyed with the Nomad one at first, but a time or two when I killed the engine trying to drive off with it down made me think that I might not be as vigilant as I thought I was.
I'm fine with it now. |

I'm fine with it. I call it a "stupidity compensator"!
I wish I had one for every aspect of life. ;)

Funny you should mention kick stands. This morning, about 200 yards from the driveway I heard a noise I didn't like very much and realized my stand was dragging on the ground
![]() My bike has been lowered, so the stand didn't fall far enough to engage the kill switch. Good thing, that situation has the potential to become real ugly. I think I'll include the spring in my check list when changing oil. ![]()

About 30 years ago, I had one of those "REAL UGLY" experiences with the kick stand being down, put me in the hospital for a week with 6 broken bones. Needless to say, the kickstand kill switch is one of my favorite features on my Nad. ;)

I bought my bike used (03 1500fi). I pulled out one morning and realized the stand was still down. Someone had disabled the switch!!! They cut the wires right where they exit the switch and tied them off. I pulled the switch and tested it. It was still good. I rewired it and it has worked fine for me since. No idea why they would disable it but it has not given me 1 lick of problem since I re-enabled it.

speaking of kickstands: I was in a re-modeled wally world the other day. it was at least 90+ out and the parking lot was new asphalt. When I came out in about 1 hr. I noticed the bike was leaning over a little extra after getting closer. Got on the bike and looked at the stand and it was buried up about 2 inches in the hot asphalt. Another hour in the store and it would have tipped over. NOT good!

Doc, it would have stopped on the crash bars if that is any consolation.I carry a 4 inch diameter piece of flat steel for such ocassions. It's round and about an 1/8th inch thick.

I know what you mean Doc, when I first got mine, it was parked in the lot at work, when I came out to go home, it was leaning way over. I had to actually "pull" the bike up out of the asphalt. Next day at work, I cut me a piece of stainless steel about 4" X 4" X 3/16" thick to place under my stand. I carry it in the pouch on my tank bib.

I had a similiar experience Doc, this past summer... A friend and I rode to nachez miss., and spent the night in a brand new hotel, with brand new blacktop... it never even entered my mind what would happen... but, the next morning, I seen my bike from a distance, and thought it looked kinda strange.... it had laid plumb over against my friends bike.... he rides a royal star, and his kickstand has a piece on it to catch with your shoe, to put it down easier.... and that piece which sticks out was all that kept both of them from laying plum down........mine was buried up about 4 inches..... a real strain to pull it out of the blacktop...Good lesson learned,,, I'll know next time...
