Switching Tires from a Classic to a Nomad
I have OEM Stones on the Nomad and Metzler 880's on the Classic.
Can the Metzlers be switched from the Classic onto the Nomad? I've heard there are some tires that work on a Classic but won't work on a Nomad. Hope it isn't Metzlers..... Login or Register to Remove Ads |

ME880 comes in both front and rear sizes. The rear is either 180/60 or 180/70 radial and the front 150/80 bias. A lot of people use this config with no issues. the 60 series will lower the backend about 1/4" (.27), where the 180/70 will raise it over 3/8" (.42). The front ME880 will raise the front end almost 1/2" (.47). Just something to consider.
I myself use a Dunlop Elite III 180/70R-16 (radial) on the rear) and still have the stock front at 14,400 miles. I did just buy a Bridgestone Exedra G705 (code 065633) for the front, though the website doesn't say if it's radial or bias. The G703 has 3/32" deeper tread than the stock G721. I figure that relates to more miles. The G705 is used on the Yamaha XVZ1300A Royal Star 1998-2002.

p.s. the Elite III 180/70 raises the rear 3/8" which corrects the speedo a little. The new Bridgestone G705 is about 3/16" (.15) lower. I don't know if there will be any negative effect.

Bob: that front bridgestone is a bias for sure.
