Gas Prices
This week has been brutal at the gas pumps around here. On Monday it was selling for $1.07 a litre. By yesterday it was $1.20 Thats $5.45 a cdn gallon. They where raising the price about a 1/2 cent to a cent a day last week and early this week.On Thursday and Friday they were bumping it up 3 cents a day per litre. They say they want to see it at $1.40 to $1.50 a litre. I filled the bike on Thursday, at $1.17 and it took $21.50 to fill. Thats the most expensive fillup to date so far. Whats the reason for this again? GREED Id imagine, what do you think?

Dakals, much as I admire you, I've got to disagree. Bush couldn't raise or lower gas prices even if he wanted to. High gas prices in the USA are due to four main reasons (IMHO). 1- China and India's rapidly increased demand, 2- speculators buying and selling for profit, 3- the devalueating dollar means everything imported is more expensive, and 4- Environmentalists are preventing oil drilling and new refinery building in the US. The only one we as individuals can do much about is #4. Call your congressman and b*tch!!! Well anyhow, that's just my 2cw.

Yep... anyone who thinks this is related to who or what party occupies the presidency is out of touch. Fact is that approximately 1995 we used up 50% of the fossil fuel sources. Fact is as Buckeye says the increase in demand is a global issue. Fact is these factors together will insure we never see low fossil fuel prices again. I say everyone needs to lay off the same ole 8itch sessions on how the government (that we elect by the way) is at fault for all our problems and start getting behind the development of a solution.
I do not agree that the answer is to drill where the tree huggers protect. That would be nothing more than a band aid. The fix will be to develop long term alternative energy sources through nano technology and hydrogen. Ethanol IS NOT the answer either. VERY inefficient process. Back up a rail car of grain on one end of the refinery and the result is a drop of fuel out of the other. |

First off, I'm not going to tweak anyone's political or moral agenda here except to say that I'm a Libertarian. Before that I was an American Independent. I don't vote for Republicans or Democrats, and never have. Not once. You folks can vote for whomever you like.
As for the alcohol fuel thing, it's not as cheap as refining crude oil. That's for certain. It eventually will be, because the cost of oil will go steadily up. Also, we're making alcohol as a political sop: not as a competitive business. There is about zero incentive to make alcohol production efficient because the government is pandering to the producers. Also, good drinkin' liquor is made from corn and other food crops, but fuel alcohol can be made from almost any plant that grows, including lawn clippings. You could make it in your back yard except for that $28/gallon federal booze tax. You get around that by adding a percentage of gasoline to make it undrinkable, but the feds make you jump through hoops to make sure that's exactly what you're doing. (Politicians aren't interested in you making your own fuel. Hard to tax & no contributions come of it.) Right now we're running diesel tractors to grow food-quality corn & truckin' it to distilleries in diesel trucks, and truckin' the alcohol around with diesel trucks. Obviously that's never gonna work. |

Buckeye, the voice of reason. Agree with your post.
Everybody blames Bush for everything. Looks like rain tomorrow...DAMN BUSH! There's pleanty of oil in Alaska and in the Gulf of Mexico, but the tree huggers won't let us drill there. |

Dang treehuggers!
We should have a special tax just for Volvos: For every Volvo bought we get to drill one new well. For every ten Volvos we get an offshore oil platform. Same yuppie couple buys two volvos, I get to go shoot an elk. ![]() |

I don't love the idea at this point and you guys can be doubters if you want but just remember you heard it here from B-Easy
This link was posted here before. Yes it ends in a crash but listen to what the stats are. Zero to 60 in less than one second. 158 miles/hr in the qtr. 400 hp. About 100 lbs. heavier than a regular drag bike however 200 lbs. less than YOUR NOMAD. Runs on lithium ion batteries using nano phosphates. The is an American company that is building delivery trucks (like the UPS vans) and is selling them in Europe. They run all day. Can run approximately 100 miles before needing a "fill up". How long to fill up? LESS THAN 15 MINUTES ! ! ! ! ! ! Listen to what dude says "forget about what you know about batteries". This one is a decent looking bike. Doesn't have much power but it isn't running on the latest technology in DC power. |
