Inside the dust storm

I had to run an errand tonight after work. As I left the house, I could see a large dust storm coming from the south, about 1 mile away from the highway. Maybe 5 minutes later I was on my way back home. The storm had just crossed the highway. Here I am heading straight into it. Keep in mind this was around 5:00 PM, normally it would be daylight out.

This was taken after turning back onto the highway about a mile from my neighborhood. In fact, visibility was so poor, I missed the street I was going to turn on.

To the right is nothing but desert on the Gila River Indian Reservation, to the left is the outskirts of Chandler AZ.

Yeah, I know but it's quiet out here and crime isn't a big issue. Just have to put up with some dust now and then.

And a good way to get your new bike sandblasted.

...which is why my bike was safely tucked away in my garage and I was driving my Bronco.

I've never seen a dust storm in person. Have you ever been caught in one of these type storms on your bike? Would you have to stop or could you ride through it?

I've ridden through a couple of them. Usually it's out in the middle of nowhere and with nowhere to go to avoid it.

You can keep your snow. These dust storms only last a few minutes and you don't have to plow the road afterwards.

I always wondered what a dust storm looked like. Looks like yankee fog.....

I left work a little early so that i would not get caught in it. I was on the bike, so I did not want any part of it. I got caught in the leading edge of one on the bike a few years ago. That hurts on your arms and face.
