Computer help again, Please
I bought a wide screen monitor as my dinosaur monitor finally craped out.
Here's the problem. My old monitor was 16" diagonal. the new wide screen is 20" diagonal. If I have it fill up the whole screen it is compressed downward. A circle looks like an oval. If I have it so it appears normal, there is 2 1/4" on both sides that are black and not used. So I still have the same size picture. Why have a wide screen monitor?

You may need to change your screen resolution on the computer.Read the documentation for your new monitor and you will see how to make adjustments on the monitor. It just needs fine tuning.

Cajun is right. Did a CD come with the new monitor? A lot of times, your computer senses and uses the new monitor, but it is being used under "generic", so you don't get a lot of the features if you would select the correct drivers or install the ones on the CD.
Also, you might be adjusting it wrong. On your desktop (not the one with your phone and stapler on it), right click where there are no icons, then click properties. This is for XP. Window pops up, click on the tab that says I believe settings, grab the slider and pull it to the right. If your computer has the correct monitor listed, you should have a lot of different settings to chose from. Some are for wide screens, some are not. If you installed from the CD, after you reboot, you should have a new program just for adjusting the new monitor. A lot of times it is down on the taskbar, next to the clock. You can just double click that and the program will pop up, then you can adjust it that way. There are so many different variations and ways of doing it, and depending on what type of OS you have, read through the manual that came with it, or google the brand / monitor and see how to adjust it.
