oil leak?
I did the cam chain tensioners last week and now I seem to have an oil leak. I thought for sure I just did not have something tightened up or a bad gasket or o-ring, but it is not leaking around the tensioners. I can't seem to find where it is leaking except the spots under my bike on the garage floor and at work.
I wiped everything down and let the engine run for a while and can not see anything. The oil is not showing low, so I have not lost enough to have to add any, but it has been enough to leave a 4-5" spot under the bike. I'm confused. I thought I would be able to find where it is coming from. Oil plug is not loose.

Perhaps the clutch rod seal popped out, you will have to remove the LH engine case to find out, not that hard to do. Also are you sure its motor oil? It could possibly be gear oil as well from the final drive.

Where is it leaking? If it's to the left of center beneath the side stand pivot, 10 to 1 it's your clutch pushrod seal. That's an easy fix.

oil leak?
It looks like it is leaking at the banjo bolt on the slave cylinder.
I tightened up the bolt and wipped it down.

Try to hook it with a piece of wire if you can get at it. if its still on the shaft you should be able to get it.

Don't pull the push rod out. The seal will fall to the bottom of the crankcase. If you can't fish it out with it hanging on the push rod, get another seal and leave the "hanger" where it is.

part of it is in the crankcase now off the rod. I can not get it or even find it. I have a new seal ordered adn I will keep fishing around in there, but I don't think I will be able to get it. How worried should I be?

It is not in the crankcase.
It is in the bottom of the bevel gear case. It should fall down below the gear change mechanism and not interfere with anything. To get it out you will have to pull the bevel gear drive housing off the engine. It can be done in the bike, but it's a pain in the ass. If you decide to do it just let me know and I will go through the process with you. I had to do it last year after rebuilding the engine. The gear change mechanism was off just enough to not shift properly. MT

Thank you for the offer for help. If it is not a big worry, I would rather not take it further apart. Thanks for making the panic a little less.
