Bobcat, I can't but someone here may be able to answer your question. Your best bet would be to search a Honda forum for your answer. You would more than likely get it answered pretty quickly.

You can also Google....free motorcycle manuals.
There are several sites that let you download a service manual at no cost. You may fine one for your bike or something close enough to give you the info you need.

This guy has set up a web page on the cm250 and invites questions or discussion by email. Maybe he can help, or launch you in the right direction.

Dumb question

Maybe we can help more if you say what you do know about the tool and show us a picture of it.

I am a x foreign car tech, but am not aware of this tool or what it does other than a guess is it either holds slack on the drive belt, or the belt is something other than a drive belt.

Looked over the posted links too. I see but am not certain of there could be 2 belt types, one is cogged and I guess the other is a flat belt. Which type is yours?

Dumb question

the tool came in the factory tool kit witch came with the bike. It is a spring loaded gauge that fits into the belt guard . the tension of the belt determins the hieght of the gauge. there are 2 lines eched on the gauge. my asumption would be any where between the lines would be fine but to assume is to pay later..lol. I dont have a 1983 owners manual that gives me the proper procedure to use the gauge and the sticker on the belt guard just says to use the gauge for accurate tension. This is now my 4th night searching the www for information on this subject. So mac it is a cogged belt on a 1983 honda cm250 custom motorcycle i will try to post a pic.

Dumb question

The head mech at Canyon Honda in Nampa, Idaho (they have a website) used to build motors in the 80's for Honda. I used to own an '84 Sabre and he used to give me advice on repairing it over the phone. He's a pretty good guy if you want to look him up and give him a call.

Dumb question

Did you ever try going to a Honda dealership and asking one of the technicians?

They don't give free information concerning a tool that comes in the stock tool kit? They must be seriously hard up for cash to tell a customer something as absurd as that. Is there another dealer within 100 miles? I'd ask another and never walk through the door of the first one ever again.
