Battery Question

I got my last two from Car Quest (military discount). They have been good batteries. Keep it charged with a trickle charger. I use the Wal-Mart Shumaker. (cheap).

Sounds like a surface charge to me. A battery tender is great for keeping a battery charged up while the bike is sitting, but not so great for charging up one that has run down. Try a regular battery charger (on a 2-5 amp setting) and you may be able to revive the battery.

Battery Question

I put the battery on a 2 amp charge and after about an hour the battery charger turned itself off and indicated the battery was 100% charged.I turned the key on and there wasn't enough juice to get a reading on the instruments.I'm on a quest to find a battery locally. Thanks for the advice.

Battery Question

Looks like a dead battery ..... if you buy a mulitimeter we can prove it one way or the other.

I strongly reccomend you buy a wally world Shumaker 1.5 amp charger, wire the pig tail to the battery and use that charger anytime you are not parked at work or riding.

I have a June 06 Nad I bought used, not sure of the history before me with 1,413 miles, but I run that charger all the time, and expect 8 years and not a day less from the oem battery.

I run a full time dc volt meter on the bike 24/7 ON all the time as well, and I KNOW this battery is as new still.

Battery Question

I'm ahead of ya Mac.I have the charger you mentioned and the Battery Tender brand charger. The place I bought the new battery load tested the old battery and it was definitely bad.He said the connecting wire between two plates probably broke.I don't know if the previous owner used a battery tender or not but I will. Thanks for all the help and advice.

Battery Question

Well I running a battery in my cage that has over spray for painting the cage in 02. The car was off the road a whole year then, and that battery wasn't cared fore well. I wish i could KNOW when I bought that battery, likey around Sept 97 when I bought the car. It was brutal the car.... I real fixer uper cracked across for floor behind the ft doors and yad yad yada wasn't nthing fixed right of what was fixed at all but I wanted that car, still got it now.

Then it sat another 11 months 05 into 06 wintering over in a field, same battery.

Last fall it bothered once turning the engine slow and i charged it then a little.

The other day it bothered again and I pulled the caps old style lead acid, and found 3 dry.

I had it on the Shgumaker 2 days now less driving, and that battery holds a load and under testing as I type and holding a static 12.74 dcv

Every so often I turn on the blower to 4 and high beams to drag it down and then hook up that anti sulfation pulse battery charger.

Working this before it is too late, I am now wondering just how long I can get use of this old beater.

AND the bike is ON a like charger to it. I know I would rather pay 10 cents a week to run that little charger and pay 20 bucks for another than buy 100 dollar batteries each 3 or 4 years.

If I still own the Nomad and it looks long term the first and last battery i will buy for it will be oddessy red case AMERICAN tad costly but they are great, the best.

Battery Question

Get the one Scoot mentioned. I got the same one and it is a perfect fit and you get more amps. I called every battery place/store in my area and no one had the same size. The dimensions are weird, so a replacement is hard to find.
When I ordered mine from battery mart, I got a $5 discount for being a first time customer. Shipped it to my door in about 4 days. Great service.

I picked up that same battery locally for $69+tax.It was at a Battery Warehouse which I think is a national chain.Everything is working fine now.

Battery Question

I have a couple of these:

http://www.harborfreight.com/15-amp-...ner-99857.html

Have them hooked up to our ATV batts. So far they are working fine. Got them for 9.99 with a coupon. I check them regularly with a volt meter.

With easy modification, a pigtail can be permanently installed on the battery with a connector to make easy hookup to bike.

Battery Question

For the 20 bucks the shumaker has the adapter to bolt on the bike AND a another with clips that fit ANY 12 batt. IT HAS anti sulfation pulse and it is real and it is working to be a very nice feature. Slowly a little at a time on a battery better than 10 years old I am forcing it as a test to take and hold a load/charge.

Now I don't get impressed very over from any 20 dollar tool I get at wallmart but this one works.

That battery failed to be able to take a charge but it is now and standing over night is read 12.74 dcv!!!!!!!!!!!!! If i wasn't running the meter I would be calling who is a liar.
