Keeps Stalling
New to me 2007 1600, just got it a few months ago off the dealer floor for a great price, new, never ridden.
I have been having problems where the motorcycle stalls within moments of riding it. This would only happen once and then I would restart it and it would be ok. Now it stalls at least twice within the first two minutes of riding it. I have tried warming the engine longer but that has no effect and it has never stalled while idling. When it stalls the complete power shuts down. Once the bike is warmed up it runs great. When I restart the bike after it stalls the computer and clock resets itself. I've been to the dealer 3 times and they don't have a clue what to do. Hopefully someone here can help? Login or Register to Remove Ads |

If the clock and instrument panel keep resetting itself you have a power supply issue. I'd go through your battery connection and the ground especially. This has caused many a Nomad headaches.

+1 on what BD just said. You have a loose or poor connection somewhere. Start at the battery, + and -, and then work your way toward the starter from the battery. The clock and odometer resetting are dead give aways.

Thanks for the input, I'll start searching for a loose or bad connection.

Yeah it's underwarrenty probably but he can't find a tech wrth 2 cents.
I agree with BD too, that somewhere there is a poor connection. The first place I would start looking is the plugs under the seat, take them apart and plug them back in. Then under the nacell there is 2 more, again take them apart and plug them back in. Then the lamp bucket, and un-plug and re-plug every single one of them. With the seat still off pull the ground cable off and then the hot, and then install the hot and last the ground. Then check out the fuse box. Then test ride. You may still have the problem and you may not. At least you will know what was done and it's right. Each time this occures be sure to switch the key OFF all the way.

Find another dealer. This one isn't worth an ounce of spit. Well, maybe the dealer is, but not his service department.

I agree the dealer is a lost cause. I pulled the battery and had it load tested, it failed as a weak battery. Has anyone tried the Odyssey Batteries ?

The stock battery is a very nice battery, see if they will warrenty it. I am planning to get 8 year use of mine. I run a full time volt meter and a 20 dollar shumaker auto float antisulfaction, from walley world, the top of the top in charger IMO, at this time, and IMO better than Battery Tender. My battery is from 06, and reads 12.84 left standing 24+ hours.
Great call doing a load test first. I usually suggest that first too, but have been shot down so many times for it that I didn't suggest it this time. who knew? Odyssey has a great rep if you go that way.

Seems that if the bike is a 2007 but was bought new it should be covered for two years. When I bought my Honda VTX1300 in 2008 it was covered for one year. Bought the Nomad from the same dealer and was told I have two years of coverage from the date of purchase regardless of mileage. I would definitely see if Kawasaki will cover replacing the battery with a new original equipment battery. If I were to buy a battery I would look in to Yuasa. I think that is how it is spelled. Built in the US as far as I know.

That 'agm' battery we have is a great battery ovr all., beats Yusa life by far. In a way I see it as making up for the for crap brickstones we suffer.
treat that agm batt to a bit of care, and it will pay you back. And yes if this bike was new old stock it should be under warrenty. And so then sitting killed it, like sitting does to most batterys in this size range. It is use it or loose it, and so far as I am concerned warrenty applies.

Warrenty should cover it. I also bought my '07 new from the dealer in 8-09. They provided a full two years warrenty from the date of purchase. I had them replace the battery when I bought it as when I went to test drive it, before buying, the battery was dead.

Whatever happens with the battery Gaillarry and you get another one installed be sure and pick you up a battery maintainer and keep it plugged in any time you aren't riding. It will keep the battery fully charged and extend the life of the battery.

Got a new Odyssey PC535 battery. Had to modify the battery box slightly to get it to fit. Took the bike for a few test rides and no problems!!!
Curious about the connectors that aren't being used - what are they for? ![]() |
