Stereo Help

Hey guys, in the middle of a Reckless fairing install, and have a couple questions. I bought the fairing that houses 4 5 inch speakers. Will this take 5.25 speakers and the rings not hang over the flat area? And second, I can't use a splash cover due to my risers. Keeping that in mind, what stereo components are you guys using in these things? I am on a pretty tight budget at the moment. Thanks for any replies/advise. This is my first real post here, and hopefully the beginning of a great relationship with everybody here.

If you won't use a splash cover, then you need to buy a marine-grade head unit. I bought a regular automobile head unit, but I used a splash cover to protect it. As far as the speakers I assume you mean you want the speakers flush, not with the grill mounted on the outer face of the fairing? I'm not sure how that's going to look. ???

I had to us a dremmel to get the 5 1/4's to fit in mine, but it worked out ok. I ended up finding a Pyle marine stereo with 4 speakers on ebay for a little over $100 that is working out pretty well. Not exactlly high end audiophile qualilty sound, but then again the roar of the pipes is the real music:)

Don't pour the hose on the stereo and it should be fine, Ive had a car stereo with no cover since the bike was new with no problems. Even in heavy rain the radio doesn't get wet behind the fairing.

Thanks for the response guys. Jasperboy, a Plye marine package is what I'm actually looking at too. Glad to hear that the speakers work out ok. Thanks again.

the nice thing about the marine ones is that often they have the option for a wired remote
works well on the handlebars and taht way you don't have to take your hands off to adjust the volume while riding

I used a car stereo in mine with a splash cover and changed from a set of pullback risers to a set of 13" ape hangers and leaned the back. I also used 5 1/4" boss speakers but had to open the holes up with a dremel tool the out side of the cover sticks over a little but not bad enough to notice. Also I only used the 2 inside speaker holes.

Its my lucky day, I just got a new stereo for the bike from the Kids. Its a pretty nice fathers day gift. I may just go out and install it before long.

Sometimes I get the finger also, ;) but overall they're pretty good, now I thinking about getting some rear speakers as well.
