Exhaust baffles

I am currently running open pipes (V&H) thinking of machining some baffles that look like thunder monsters. Are they open thru or have something inside? Anyone see a problem using aluminum for baffles? This darn thing is just to loud. I love the sound but im gonna be deaf soon.

Open V&H would be deafening, Your also losing a lot of bottom end power. A few here have Ultimate baffles and I think some of them were made from aluminium. They would be probably along the lines of what your looking for. A drawing is available her on one of the boards somewhere.

Ultimate baffles would probably fix your problem.

Exhaust baffles

I run my V&H baggers with no baffles and love the sound. It is loud at idle but once you are cruising down the highway they aren't too bad.

Exhaust baffles

Here a link to the thread I started when I had a set of ultimate baffles made for my V&H baggers. http://www.vulcanbagger.com/phpBB3/v...ic.php?t=15426
They were machined out of a solid chunk of aluminum, and have worked fine. If you'd like, shoot me a pm with your email addy and I'll email you the machinist drawing for them.

Exhaust baffles

I have been using the UB's now for about 7 months. They are great, but compared to the stock VH baffles, they give up a little torque from start up to about 3200 rpm. Past that, and especially on hard acceleration, they really shine. The motor pulls hard from 3200 to 'red line'. Actually it's the rev limiter. Seems like they are tuned for power at the top end of the range. You guys gotta be loosing gobs of power with out any baffles in your VH pipes.
I tried the stock and the stock loosely wraped in glass. Best low end torque was wraped, and a good compromise for both low and high end is stock VH. UB's don't cost me so much power that I mind when comuting and riding solo, but, we will be going to the Hill Country over the 4th and riding 2 up. I will reinstall the stock baffles unwraped. I get best power and milage that way.

By unwrapped, do you mean you just took the fiberglass (or whatever that stuff is) off? How is the sound?

Yeah, unwraped is with out any fiberglass or anything else. The sound of stock VH baffles is great. Not quite as loud as the UB's, but almost as 'throaty'. The wot sound is virtually the same. It's mostly at idle and low rpm acceleration where the difference is most noticable. While the UB's are louder, the VH baffles are not quiet.

Exhaust baffles

If you have or can get the V&H baffles, do what I did.

I cut out the section of the baffles that is perforated, then attached the two ends together so as to have both end caps.

They sound a lot more throaty but not overbearing like no baffles did.

Exhaust baffles

i took my V&H`s baffels n shortened them considerably, notched the sides & inserted 1/2half of a the round washers staggering them 2 on each side & added torque cones in the header pipes to bring back-pressure back up. been like that over a yr now. not too loud, not too quiet plenty of bottom end!

This is what i got done today. Deep tone at idle but not to loud riding. Going to turn the OD down more in the center for less weight and surface area.
