Boating or Biking?!!!

Every year we struggle (as many of you others do too, I'm sure) with whether to spend time on the water or spend time on the open road on the bike. When I am biking, I'm thinking, this is what we should be doing! Then, on a day like today with the temps in the 70's, the skies clear and the water calm, I get on the boat and think, this is what we should be doing!

DECISIONS, DECISIONS, DECISIONS!!!! ::)

Check out my pics!

Boating or Biking?!!!

I havn't had my boat in the water for about four years now. Havn't even seen it in over two years. And there was a time when I used it about five times a week when I did a lot of fishing.
Now I ride the bike in my leisure time, and have more fun doing it.

Boating or Biking?!!!

Wow, I am glad I am not alone in this struggle! For the past ten years or so I have a trailer, my brother has the boat, and we have found somewhere to go fishing for extended periods of time each summer (both teaching so the time is available). Mostly Lake Erie, though we have made it down to the Keys with the boat to fish. Trailer and boat both made it down to Beaufort SC two years ago.

Last year, my first with the Nomad and though I put on quite a few miles, mostly in state, fishing seemed to cut into the riding and camping time more than I wanted it to. To add to the dilemma, brother has a new fishing boat... hmmmm... this is going to be a tough summer, but so far, most of my summer calendar is filling with rides, mc events, etc and only two fishing trips.

Life is good

I used to do a fair amount of fishing in Lake Erie as well. Mostly in the Port Colbourne Ontario area, across from Erie Pa. I havn't fished in the summer for about five years now. But I still icefish in the winter every chance I get.

Boating or Biking?!!!

Cindy had a boat when I ment her. Once we got into biking the boat didn't get used enough to keep. The motorcycle can go any where there is a road. ( unless you are Dan Lund , then it can go other places as well}
The boat has to stay on the lake you are on. If I were to get another boat I think it would be a party barge. But don't need the confusion. Will stick with the Nomad.

Boating or Biking?!!!

I have owned five motorcycles but only one boat. I owned a ski boat in the early 70s and found it was a lot of trouble hauling it to the Tennessee River, putting it in the water and taking it out again. Most trips I was the only one doing this and found it to be difficult especially if the wind was blowing. Once I sold the boat I just didn't figure it was worth the trouble. I didn't use it that often and the cost per mile was expensive. Meaning it wasn't used enough so got out to the boating business. Now bikes are a different story. If I want to take a ride I just hop on and go. No hassles and no worries. Easy decision for me.

Boating or Biking?!!!

We enjoy our boat as well. Two different types of fun in my opinion. Bike is usually just a me thing, or me and mama will sometimes take a weekend trip. Boat is our family activity in the summer. Often with another family. Spending the day skiing and tubing is just as enjoyable for me, and like CheriAnn which ever I choose I enjoy. If I could find the right one I'd love to get a larger cabin cruiser for Lake Erie and use it as a weekend vacation home. After the kid is grown up I might really look into it, as we could ride the bike up and combine the two acitvities:)

Great pictures Cheriann and very nice rig. I used to spend more time boating than I did at home and loved every minute of it. Now the only boating I do is occasional fishing and much more during the deer hunting season. We have more lakes and bayous down here than we know what to do with. What nuke plant is that in the background?

If you do enough boating... you may find it to be boring after a while. At least that was my experience. Especially if you are on the same body of water a lot.

So... I got rid of the boat and haven't looked back.

Now... having said that... I did something much better than owning a boat... I found a friend that owns a boat!

Boating or Biking?!!!

It seems like I have had a boat of some kind for the last 40 years.
When it gets too hot to ride the bike I head to the lake to stay cool.
Next to biking, fishing if about my favorite pass time.
I like the late evening fishing better then the daytime fishing... give me a light in the water at night and I'm in my glory!

The wife likes fishing as much as I do... as long as I'm the one baiting and removing the fish for her.. <G>

Normally I'd have been fishing for the last month but so far I've just had time to clean the boat up from the winters cold.

What type do I have now?? A pontoon! Yep, I have a "Old Mans Boat"

Boating or Biking?!!!

Water or the road? I don't have a large motorboat, but I do have a large square strern canoe with a motor and I have a kickboat for flyfishing. Problem with both of them is that I have to take the Bronco to the lake. My solution is to strap the fishing gear onto the Nomad and fish at the end of an awesome ride. Everything is catch and release. Makes for a great day. My only dilema now is do I go fishing or go for a ride with my friends?

Boating or Biking?!!!

Thank you for the nice comments! The boat is old, but it gets us around at top speed! We just hate to get rid of it because it's paid for and costs us nothing, really, except gas and oil. So, we vowed to make more time this summer for boating.

As was mentioned, we did get out Saturday with another couple and their two children. We did some fishing, then we did some tubing behind the boat and then we anchored near a beach and did some swimming. That was GREAT...until we passed MANY, MANY, MANY bikers out enjoying the day on the open roads, while we were heading back home. Then when we got home I discovered I had a bad sunburn!! :-[

We made the big decision a month ago. We have had a 32 ' sailboat for 10 years. When we lived in Illinois we kept it on Lake Michigan out of Racine , Wi.. About 1 1/2 hours away. We called it out condo on the Lake. From mid April till the the middle of October our weekends were spent on the boat.

When coming to Las Vegas my employer moved the boat and originally we sailed Lake Mead every weekend and had the opprotunity to sail year round. However, Lake Mead has become somewhat confining and we long for large inland seas or the ocean.

It's for sale. When it's gone, we plan to charter boats out of the LA or San diego areas which are about 4 hours away. That way we can get out big water fix and not have dockage, maintanance and insurance costs to deal with.

So . . . for $85K I can fix up anyone who wants their very own sailboat.
