Power port, cigarette lighter location

For those of you who have mounted a power port on your bike, can you share the location at which it’s mounted?

I would prefer to locate one that is anywhere between the headlight and the passenger seat.
That way I could use it for a GPS on the handlebars or my wife could use it for her ipod.

I also would like it to be as inconspicuous as possible so that while it’s not in use it isn’t noticeable or in the way.
I was trying to imagine one mounted in one of the side covers but I’m not sure there is enough room behind the cover or in front of the cover for the plug to be inserted.

Thanks.

I am boring...I just mounted it on the inside of the windshield using the second from the left top acorn nut, as you are viewing from the inside of the windshield. Seems to work fine for my GPS and phone charger.

I did the same as Schoeney. On the inside of the windshield using same nut. Actually I have two power ports, one on each side.

The pic shows a power port under the LH side cover wired in to the accessory plugs by the battery. It's just got velcro on it's foot so you can take loose to stick your power cord in then stick whole thing to velcro. I have used for cell phone, hand held CB and the wifes IPOD. Plus, less than $2 cause it's a naked port.

I have two on my bike. One is mounted on the handlebars between the risers to power my MP3 player, primarily. The other is in my tourpak. When I get my fairing, the one on the handlebars will be installed in the fairing.

I mounted mine in exactly the same place trosco did and also secured it with the velcro. Also added an inline 15 amp fuse to it for 12v air compressor.

I had two of the silver or metal ones installed. One on each side as a part of the sissy bar. This way my wife can have her gps and whatever other toy she wants.

I have mine mounted to the black plastic plate on the neck just in front of the tank. The next one is going in the side cover.

Sorry to side track this post, but it does seem related as scott2007nomad did mention wanting to use the power outlet for a GPS.

Fish, I noticed in your picture that you have your GPS mounted using the suction cup mount on the Nomad windshield. Does it hold well enough? Also I notice what looks like cable tie for back up? I was fiddling just the other day, figuring how to best mount my GPS and came to the conclusion that the suction cup just might work fine with some sort of back up tether.

your correct about the cable ties and they did their job the one and only time it let loose. It is very convenient at that location to see at a glance. I have since went to a handle bar mount.
