Dealer 500/600 mile service cost?

I'm stomping at the bit to go for a ride (new 07), so I'm trying to get everything down now, anyway, this question is about the first dealer check up. What is the cost around different areas? Is it worth it?

Other than checking a few bolts and changing some lubes, can it be done by the owner and not cause problems the warranty?

I haven't let a dealer ever do anything to a bike of mine other than change a tire. When I was younger, I turned wrenches on Hondas in the summers. I saw comments on other forums about this, but I would really like to hear from you Nomaders.

Dealer 500/600 mile service cost?

I personally went ahead and had it done by the dealer just to make sure I didn't void any part of my warranty. It's been a while since I had it done so I'm guesstimating the cost. I think it was in the $200 range, but again, it's been a while.

Dealer 500/600 mile service cost?

I bought a prepaid maintenance plan when I bought my Nomad last September, I don't have to pay for oil changes or scheduled maintenance for 3 years/36,000 miles. I think the 600 mile service was around $220 if I had to pay for it.

Dealer 500/600 mile service cost?

My dealer didn't mention anything about a plan like that cactusjack . What does something like that cost?
My dealer cost for 600 mile check was $185 but I bought a $34 pair of gloves at the same time.

If I remember correctly, the dealer did my 600 mile service for about $150.00.

Dealer 500/600 mile service cost?

I have never had a dealer do a 600 mile service. It does not effect the warranty. Read the manual and do it yourself. It's no big deal just write everything down in your maintenance schedule.I've owned five new motorcycles since 1998 and never had any problems with the warranty after I've done the service. I plan on doing it on my 07.

;) There's not that much to do. Change oil, filter, clean metal filter, change drive gear oil. Go over every nut, bolt, screw you can reach. And trust me on this. one (you'll look closer,do more and a better job than the dealer) With the money you save, do extra early oil changes, like 200 mi. then 700mi. then 2000mi. that'll be money well spent. ;) And go over your owners manual to ck. the important items to watch for the 1st 2500mi. Then its nuttin but Ridin, Grinin and lovin every minute in the Saddle.

I purchased a 'First Six Service' prepaid plan. Cost $600.00. I think that's reasonable, considering what it would cost if you paid standard price for each service.

I was told first service was free, just pay for cost of materials used, which would be oil, filter. Sounds as if it different in states. All have to do is bring it in, get a loaner bike while it in the service area and come back in couple hours to collect.

Ours was included with the bike but we have to pay for oil and filter. I can tell you this. If you do your own maintenance build you a computer file spread sheet and keep track of every thing you do, including dates, type of fluids used etc. Should you have to argue over warranty work having these records makes it a lot easier.

Sorry, I'm at work right now and don't have the paperwork to reference, I'm really not sure how much it was as it was all rolled into the final price.. They also extended my factory warranty an additional year, so I have a 3-year factory warranty now. This plan also includes batteries. A battery in an auto or bike typically lasts no longer than 2 years here due to the excessive heat.

Tell ya what...I'll look up the price this evening and update the thread.

Dealer 500/600 mile service cost?

I had two different dealers do the 600 on my Meanstreak and Nomad. One of them went overboard. They went so far as to change the spark plugs and air filter as well as the other normal 600 mile items. That one cost me about $500.00. The other one was about $180.00 if I remember correctly. It just depends on the dealer and how much they want to make. If you have the dealer do it you need to go over what they are going to do before they start.
