Iron Butt Time
It's time to start thinking of the Iron Butt Ride for 2010 - 1000 miles in 24 hours and the 1500 bun burner in 36 hours. If there's interest - I will help coordinate and plan. Our local Harley group is thinking of doing Florida's four corners but I think the KW section makes it harder than it needs to be.

May be doing one with the MTF group in early March. Haven't decided yet.

While Ron is trying to decide ???, I went ahead and signed up.
I have no doubt he's not going to let both groups he belongs to 1 up him. I've been looking forward to an iron butt for awhile now. I'm sure if Ron chooses to sit this one out it will be for a good reason like: 1. My pinky hurts 2. I'm afraid of the dark 3. My bed time is 9:30 On the other hand we are going to need someone to verify our ending time. Maybe he can do that. are you motivated yet?

Other than that, I've already done one SS1000 (last July) and am thinking of doing the Florida 4 corners ride also.

Trip includes Ft. Meyers, Key West, Jacksonville and Pensacola, actually little town west of Pensacola. This is taken from another site:
The requirements being to do a loop around Florida while going to the four corners: Amelia Island (Fernandina Beach) northeast; Perdido Key (Flora-Bama oyster bar) northwest; Marco Island (Marco Beach) southwest; and Key West (Southernmost point) southeast. The “Spirit” of the ride also calls for a jar of sand from the Atlantic Ocean (Fernandina Beach), North Gulf of Mexico (Perdido Key), South Gulf (Marco Island) & the Florida Straits (Key West). The start-finish location and the route can be anywhere in the state as long as all four corners are visited. Street’s & Trip’s shows the shortest route to be 1808 miles and the quickest route to be 1858 miles. This is a certified IBA ride.

I think they give you 36 or 44 hours, I'm not sure...I'll have to check.

sounds like a great ride for about FOUR DAYS! 36 hours would push you (well me) to the limit. if you do this be-careful no patch is worth getting hurt over, is Tammy planning on making the ride with you?
ride safe. |
