Goat's Bladder
I hate sounding ignorant (cause I don't think I are), but what the hell is a goat's bladder? I've read this several times in posts and on Gadget's Fixit page, but I have no idea what it is.
Not only am I ignorant, but I have two left hands.... ![]()

Goat's Bladder
Its a catalytic convertor. Lay down and look under the bike. It's directly in back of the oil filter. The exhaust runs in/out of it, unless you've got an aftermarket exhaust already.

Goat's Bladder
If you have one its a ball of metal about canteloupe sized and needs to go. Most take it off with the pipes when you go after market pipes. Bike will ride cooler too

It's a Continental Cuisine Todd serves at his summer bar-b-ques!

Goat's Bladder

Texas BBQ Goat This recipe is based on a 50-75 live weight mutton. We have the meat cut into what's locally called a BBQ cut. Each quarter is cut into pieces. By that I mean it remains in the shape of the quarter, and is cut through the bone in about 1/2" thickness (width) leaving only a piece of meat holding the whole quarter together (this will allow serving sizes to be cut using a fork). All of the meat is marinated in a mixture of JD (to the uninitiated that's Jack Daniels), hot mustard, salt, pepper, cayenne pepper and other spices of choice for about 24 hours. (see below). During the marinating process go dig a hole (or a whole hole) big enough for all 4 quarters to comfortably fit in and about 18" in depth. Also, you want to make a rack of something strong like concrete reinforcing wire slightly smaller than the whole hole, with long handles that will protrude well above the top of the hole. Several hours prior to the marinating being completed, build a good fire in the hole and let it burn down to a bed of coals. Wrap the quarters in alum. foil with several layers to prevent soil (dirt to us Texans) and ashes from getting into the meat. Scoop out some of the hot coals and set them aside, put the meat on the rack and lower into the hole, cover all quarters with a sheet of heavy duty alum. foil, then shovel hot coals on top of the covered quarters, and the remaining dirt on top of that. Let it cook for about 7 hours, uncover, pull out the rack, dust off the wrapped quarters, open, let rest for about 15 minutes and enjoy. Oh, and throw the goat meat away.........and the marinate.....and drink what's left of the Jack Daniels.

Goat's Bladder
Well, If I remove the one on my bike, I can just leave it in the garage as it would never pass the TUV (German inspection). but thanks for the information and advice.

Goat's Bladder
Dead stuck with a stock exhaust then? If so and the heat bugs you you can probably drop that cat, and make up some air shieldings to keep the heat away from you and or cause more air to flow over and out by that cat.

Goat's Bladder
I think it is the "goat's bladder" that is causing the heat and it stands to reason. It is not part of the engine and so it gets no cooling effect from the fan or radiator. And any breeze at all directs the heat to me and since there is more air on the right side (the left being partially blocked by the driving light and horn) the effect is felt on the left side. And that damn thing does get hot. All comments appreciated, even the smart-ass ones....lol. Ken

I don't know what you can and can not do in Germany...
If I were you I would build something to either shield you from the heat or force air over that thing. A upside down air foil, or shields one way or another if by law you can't take the thing off.

I don't think any of us are supposed to take off the converter in the US either. But I don't know of anybody that removed it, had trouble passing inspection without it.
I'd look into it if you're not sure. If you are sorry. |

Goat's Bladder
It is a BS part since there is no lamda sond in the pipes... This is a open system, and not closed, in other words there is no info going to the ecu since there is no lamda sond sender sniffing all the time.
The lamda sond sender we don't have uses O2 still remaining in the exhaust fumes to generate current, it might be as high as 0.5 dcv which is all the ecu needs to tell the injectors to be leaner, or richer depending, but this part just isn't there.... making the so called cat moot. This cat isn't a real cat and I don't care who says what, it is more a pre muffler than a cat. Now I didn't look very hard, but I am fairly sure there is no honey comb made of ceramic in these cats.. I could go look at 2 right now, but I fear spiders that might be living in the boxes. And if I killed any spiders that might be living in these boxes PETA might come and call me a murder! ![]() ![]() Besides that we are out of cheese burgers and since I have no cheese burgers to cook I don't need a cat under my bike. A Cat = BBQ which = you are making me hungery Jim..
