Thinking of the Darkside
Squiggly like trying to balance on a basketball? I too prefer the slower seemingly more steady application of any input whatsoever.

This all very interesting. Keep your opinions coming, I'm listening. Has a poll ever been set up as to how many members run a CT and how many run a MT. I'm going to really go out on the limb here... ;) and guess there are more running MT's but I'm more interested in knowing how many run a CT's.

Ricky, I guess I'll chime in here with an old farts view on car tires.
I debated for years on making the switch. Really got serious about it after I sold my spoke rimmed Harley and bought the Nomad. I am now on my second car tire. Have logged over 23,000 miles with ct's and as others have said, "I not going back to a m/c tire." The handling is as good, if not better. Ride is much more comfortable. Cost saving was a big factor to me since I've "never" got over 9,000 miles out of m/c rear tire. Those that have rode with me can verify I can scrape the boards with the best of them when in the mood, however I'm still not use to "board scrapping" versus the sound and feel of "peg scrapping." ;) Feel much more secure on wet roads with ct. There is a short time frame on getting use to the difference. And, IMO, tire pressure is the major factor on being confident running ct's. I'm sold on car tires. Wish I had switched years ago. PS: As mac "remembers," I too recall square tires on 50's Harley's. In fact, I remember guys running retreads back then to save money. Not sure I would go that route.....

Ricky, someone did a poll some time ago. It didn't really prove much as not a whole lot of people respond to the polls.
The number of us who are running car tires on the rear will probably always be a relatively low % as many folks just can't get past the thought that a motorcycle needs to have motorcycle tires. What is really interesting to me is the very high percentage of those who have tried a car tire and say that they will never go back to a motorcycle tire.

Thats what Ive found also Bob, the ones that have tried a car tire have no problems and most times find them superior in most conditions. The nay sayers who think its a bad idea to install one speak with no experience at all other than they're own untested preferences.

I called a local tire shop yesterday and asked about the Dunlop SP5000 and the Continental Vanco. They are both out of stock with no due date expected on new stock.
I guess they are not very popular around here.

Someone asked a similar question on another forum and got the usual "it can't be done!", "you wouldn't put motorcycle tires on a car...", responses.
I told him "if I wanted to learn to swim, I wouldn't ask someone who was afraid of water to teach me." Show me a person who has ridden on both a motorcycle tire and a car tire, and I'll show you someone qualified to discuss the subject.

Ring, I run a 175/75/16 on my 07 Nomad. It is a Vredestein Comtrac light duty truck tire. I like the size cause it was close in width to the stock 170. This is my opinion...... Bike rides more stable in wet weather. Had to ride on freeway in a heavy downpour and I felt comfy doing that. Tire is a little taller than stock, raises bike about half inch. With more tread on back tire than stock mt tire I feel that I have more gripping of rode. I'm very happy with my choice and feel it would be a good choice for your 3.5" rim. Like I said my opinion. I would get this tire even if you have to have it shipped to someone in states and go get it.

I called the tire shop I normally deal with and these were the brands he carries. Im open to almost any brand, its just trying to find a tire shop that carries the sizes that we require.
The Vredestein would be my first choice but the Comtracs are not available in Canada. I could get one from the states but they only ship via UPS, and that is no good for us in Canada. The brokerage and taxes will probably add at least $70.00 to the price when it is delivered. Im still searching to see what other brands may be available here.
