Around here there are TONS of Harley billboards and harley advertising. I don't know if its true or not but my friend that rides a harley said that Harley makes more money off of non-motorcycle things (clothing, etc) than they do off of their motorcycles. Weather its true or not they do sell a lot of "other crap" maybe the extra money they gleen goes into supporting so much advertising.

I also noticed, at least around here, Metric dealers (Japanese) don't get involved with charities and toy drives like the Harley dealers do.

I think the fact that the Nomads come from Japan, if I am correct in that assumption, is a big part of it. There are probably only so many Nomads shipped to the states, and after that there are no more. Why advertise a bike that has a limited supply, and probably no chance of getting more if you get more buyers. I think that the bikes that get the most advertising are the ones made in the states and have the most availability, and have a lot of stuff to customize it with.
Here in Michigan there is almost no advertising for the Nomad. A lot of people I talk to have no idea what I have when I tell them I have a Nomad. And at a show where you might see thousands of bikes, I will see 2 or 3 Nomads.

MichiganMike has a point. When people ask what I ride and I say Nomad, most say "what's that?"
Our local dealer always has one in stock and my salesman says the Nomads sell well. He says that most people know what they want when they come in. He says the bike sells itself!
It's weird. We know how good it is, but the masses don't know. Maybe it's a good thing. ???

I think you guys, collectively, have hit the mark: Kawi makes its money on the ATV's and Sportbikes; the dealerships don't carry much of an inventory of big V-Twin cruisers (mine had 1 Nad, 1 VN2000, and 1 VN200LTD); and Kawi just doesn't have the dough for U.S. advertising.

Honda and Suzuki get name recognition from car sales, and Yamaha has targeted the "mods" market with, "we make it, you make it your own" ad campaign.

The HD trend is getting really obvious: dealerships are trying to sell used HD's for close to the price of new ones. Good luck with that! There's either going to be a lot of used HD's going to The Yard, or there'll be a drop in used HD prices just to salvage what they can for them. Typically, dealerships will scrap them because, based on the HD dealership personalities in MY area, they are too proud to lower the price very much. They seem to rather eat the bike versus give the customer a fair price. I'll be watching for that to come around and bite them in the ass. Won't take long.

As for Kawi, I could see them go for some of the HD cop bike market. However, so many agencies are going to the Sport Touring bikes for agility, lighter weight, etc... that it's debatable if it's worth their effort. FWIW, my uncle is a retired motor cop. He rode both the KZ1000 and the HD. KZ won hands down. But that was also a number of years ago when HD sucked even more than now!

My unsolicited $.02,
Daryl (oh sorry, I mean "DS" - doin' the initials thing!)

[quote:o5sdtyyy] our police here in Austin are all going with the BMW's they are so quite they can sneak up on you now,lol
Pasadena motor officers are migrating back to gold wings from HD's, so anybody looking to buy a used HD might check with them. I know several officers with rides for sale. Why anyone would wish to move away from a Nomad though, is beyond my comprehension.

Tyler PD is also looking at the Goldwing and SP1300 to replace the HD's. The HD Roadkings are breaking down right and left. One bike has gone through 6 starters in less than 12 months. It's a shame that Kawasaki doesn't make a police package like Honda and BMW.
