Cold start solenoids on switch?
This is gonna be OT big time!
Yeah I sew my own clothing. Scottish War bonnets called Balmora, Woolen weskits with and with out sleeves, Capote' (Fur Trade blanket coat of Hudson Bay and or Whiney's blanlets. Deer hide pants from deer I kill. Mocs knee high, and center seam and pucker toe, as seen in mueseums of the fur trade. I cut silver and engrave to make trade silver, some I sell. I hand sew leather sheaths for ax's, tomahawks, and knives and I hand forge the knives. I make dresses for my wife and do the silver on them and the bead work. Last week I made a holster for my Ruger single six, in the old mexican fashion, where the holster is mounted to another flap behind the holster. So yeah I sew. made everything you see counting the gun ![]() same thing I made every bit of it the 1860 colt is a clone kit. ![]() some blades. ![]() every thing here except the real antique beads ![]()

I thought all you guys knew? I have made sails for boats by hand.. made the boat sail to begin with sometimes.. I am working on a naval cannon mount for a gun that weighs 45 pounds.. just the gun barrel is that weight, cast in gun bronze from a 1700's orignal that was dug up. I will sew some of the parts for it like a water pail in leather, some sewwing goes into the wool, tipped swabs and rammer, and a big catridge box.
No one knew? Silver: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

No wussy percussion caps .... flints and frizzens I see ......
I've got a kentucky style that I made years ago...my dad made one similar at the same time.......mine got stolen but I still have his....we had a huge walnut tree go down in the woods and used some of the wood to fabricate the stocks...bought the lock, double set triggers and barrels though....did the stocks completely by hand.......melted down lead from batteries for bullets......man, wish I still had that kinda time. built a .58 cal zouave...that was a monster!!! Also, Luv to read the Dixie GunWorks catalog....do they still print that??? OK...we are off subject..............

I've sometimes marveled at what I don't know, that was common knowledge in past centuries.
I've thought off the wall things like...even if a large animal was gifted to me in a survival situation, I wouldn't know what to do with it, and therefore would go hungry after a couple of days of spoilage. My first house was on two acres of ground with artesian wells. I thought that the right person could live there forever. But I'm tied to grocery stores etc. I admire people with the skill and know how to live without modern society. I'm just in no way one of them. When we lived in Tonga I was amazed at the things that they could do. Make rope out of plant fiber, weave a leaf into a basket that could haul 20 plus pounds etc. If I ever go on survivor, I'll help my team make a damn nice shelter, then I'll be fairly useless. :) |

I've assimilated into the corporate world.....still fun to show my son how to do some of that stuff though.....He keeps asking how I learned all that.............let's see .. 3 channels on tv, no computer, only a transistor radio, no cell phone and only a dial phone, no ipod, no walmart every 3 miles, no disposable income..................and acres and acres of woods to play in.......aaaahhh, I digress, I kinda miss the simple stuff sometimes

I thought of my childhood living next to a few hundred acre orchard (played and worked there) and thought he was really missing out if riding around the block was the most fun he had. Moved out to our two acres with artesian wells, spring fed pond, barn that I put one bad ass swing in, fox's, pheasants, ducks, hawks, horses etc. I'm back to the city now, but I didn't want a riding a pedal bike around the block to be the funest thing my kids did growing up. |
