Does blocking those valves does it make the engine noise any quieter? Is there any other benefits?

Heat welding would probably be an option as well.

$75 (or approx that) is what I recall seeing on bikebandit.com when I first looked it up. They may be more than that for a 1600. Or the prices mighta just gone up too.

I bought a nice Dremel kit to cut mine...It's waiting for another job to do?

I didn't notice because I'd already put on the loud mufflers & opened the intake, but some folks say it's quieter.

I think the real benefits are reduced engine heat, and reduced popping and banging in the mufflers if you have put on louder (more open) exhaust pipes.

LMAO if you cut it out WHY would you ever want to put it back?
I could never put all the origanal stuff back in right, plus I threw that crap away after I install my Thunder air kit.

I do the same... I posted a picture of all the stuff I took off on the air kit and coaster project. Stuff went from the location where I took the picture to the trash.

There's only two reasons that concerned me:

1) If I needed serious warranty repairs, I wanted the bike to go in reasonably stock, so I couldn't be blamed for illegal modfications that "caused the engine to blow up" or something like that. Minor warranty repairs I just did myself and at my expense because it was much easier than returning the bike to stock.

2) There was some talk about requiring smog inspections on motorcycles as they do cars here. If your car's not stock (with regard to emissions equipment, intake, exhaust etc.) they can make you put it back to stock before they renew your registration or allow you to sell it. Or you can opt to sell it out-of-state and buy something that conforms.

Frankly, it's been almost 5 years and nothing ever came of either issue. After 5 years is up, I'll probably strip off the canister, second filter, plastic tube, vapor separator, and other smog hoses, and relocate the crankcase breather. No vehicle needs smog inspection within the first 5 years of its life, and I figure it it doesn't need it then it probably never will.
