We have several friends with BMW's from 3 series to 7's and the experience is all the same - costly for service but worth it in terms of the performance and trouble free experience.

I would jump at the 1600 in a heartbeat if I was younger and didn't already have a new bike.
Nah, nothing like that. I was just elucidating. They make great cars too, just out of my league price wise. My with likes the Audi Q7 though. Still a lot of money.

Thanks for the link Ponch, I'll send it on too him. Ive never heard of it.
He tried going on a BMW forum a few years ago looking for some tips on servicing the bike, everyone replied by saying that the recomended service is by taking it to an authorized dealer at the appropriate intervals and having them to the work. ;)

I went through that on one forum. I basically said that's not how we do it at KawaNOW. It was like pissing in the wind. I may own one, but I am not like them...At least some of them. There are other forums that are better than the LT one. The BMW MOA is very good, but you pay, but you get a fantastic monthly magazine.

Oh yeah, my wife was giving me sh!t about the RT. Said it doesn't have the character the Nomad has. Damn I can't win! My oldest daughter, who rides with me more than my wife had a different opinion. I did give both the opportunity for input: I asked what would you like me to do? At that point my wife didn't want to own the situation or should I say the results. :)

My son rides with me on the Nomad sometimes also, last summer he went on my brothers bike and said its a lot more fun. He likes the acceleration of the Beemer a lot more. I think he enjoys the speed a lot more on it compared to the Nomad.
I do too, once in a while I'll switch bikes with my brother just for a change. Its quite a difference being able to toss around a 600 lb bike with double the HP.
My brother says my bike is like riding a tractor compared to his.

My daughter likes it too for the same reason. My wife doesn't mind the sedateness of the Nomad. We'll see.

The power of the 1600 was more than apparent in both videos. Not to mention the smooth acceleration and shifting of the bikes.

The motor is a whole other issue in itself. What a fine sounding piece of engineering.

One could get themselves into trouble easy on those bikes if they weren't careful.

The guy riding the GTL wicked it up pretty good in a couple places. He definitely was breaking the law. I imagine those bikes are good for 150-160. That's fast enough for me. ;)

Seemed like a fair and open accessment of the bike.

I will be interested to see just how much it lacks "at the low-end", as mentioned in the article.

Another item of interest is how it handles at the slowest of speeds. There was a hint that it could be better in that range.

Overall, sounds like they came up with a good bike -- especially when considering the pricing they put on the bike -- which was less than I thought is was going to be.

The thing to remember is that he's comparing it to a K1300GT, which is in the same league with a C14 and FJR1300. He's not comparing it to touring bikes like your Ultra, Vision and rarely Gold Wing.

I have a feeling that BMW has tuned the fly by wire not to yank the arms off the riders. The 1300GT doesn't have it and it becomes obvious in the comparisons that BMW has programed it for smoothness.
