Steering bearings
Putting on a new front tire, and while that's off changing out the fluid in the shocks. Figured it was a good time to go ahead and put new steering bearings in before they became a problem.
Checking out the different methods of doing this, taking the fairing off or leaving it on. I'll probably go with the off method as there's some things I want to look at under the fairing. I also saw where you could put a zerk fitting in the neck to grease the bearings in the future. Has anyone done this? I'm see both pros and cons to this.

Yep, zerk in neck, zerk in swingarm....During initial setup, gotta pack them good....then just pump grease till you barely feel resistance on lever. Then, each year, just 1 good squirt is all thats needed....anymore and you'll risk forcing grease past the seals....

Not going to have the time to take the fairing completely off, so I won't try this. Putting on a new tire, changing out the fork oil and finally putting Garry's fork brace on. Since it was that far down, went ahead and got new steering bearings too.
Wife told me I was doing something this weekend and I lose a day of working on the bike. Another reminder of missing the single life.

I did the All Balls steering bearings (world of difference) and the zerk in the steering neck. This was all accomplished without removing the fairing.

Thanks. I think I may go ahead and take the tank off so I can check something under it while the bike is down. Should be more than enough room to get it done.
