Well Boys my V&H baggers broke yesterday
Anyone had a spiral fractured one with little y cracks all over the place?
Goes right around passing 360 degrees but doesn't meet in the same place so it's floppy I like floppy. I am not sure i am a good enough welder for this one. Anyway I did the swing arm service today, and replaced the drive shaft boot. Got rear pads on order, just got lucky, and there is a 0.001 of pad left on one side. Going to do cam chain tensioners and see the Dunlop SP 5000 is showing wear bars real close to the surface. That can happen in late fall. If anyone has a Dunlop SP 5000 in 195/60/R16 and didn't like it, this is the time to say so. I wouldn't buy a new one till in November. If so i will want to know the date code and about how many line are on it, and how the bead looks.

You can't weld a simple little spiral fractured floppy crack? Maybe you need a new welder. Cuz I thought you could do anything. Before lunch.

This is all at the curve. Gotta weld the cracks, grind them flat and add pieces over them in the compound curve. I wish it was in a straighter section.

I know a guy that can tig this up 'Right'. I can do a fair hack, but this is over my head this time. The problem I am going to have is getting this guy to do any patches over his welds.
I had my LL look at it too and he tigs but doesn't want to try this one either. That's saying something... Besides the big screw around crack/break there are hair lines in a few places that haven't opened up yet. I should get some pics up of this i guess. Jllm02199 are you a pro welder? I am just self taught. I do pretty good, but I know when I am out of the league and this time i know i am. I am not sure this can even be done with out replacing pipe and maybe getting pipe bent. I'ld buy a rear pipe new if V&H would sell one but I know that answer too.

MAS Tequila was selling a set of Vance and Hines head pipes. Don't know if he still has them or not. Post said "just pipes. No mufflers"

Actually, I'm not certain what they where off of either. With a look though, probably.

Bill IMO opinion the pipe is probably metal fatigued in the area of the cracks and so welding them up won't last. Also since welding will destroy the chrome in that area anyway, here is an idea if you decide you must save the pipe.
As it is in a bend area, take the pipe to a muffler shop with a mandrel pipe bender and get them to match the bend with new piece of pipe with a slightly larger ID. You can then cut the pipe and slip the new piece on. You would need to assemble the pipe in place before tacking to get the angles right and then remove to TIG or braze the joints properly.

I'm sure V&H has corrected the problem with their product by now, I mean it has been a problem for years.
Just buy a new improved set. Oh, wait, THEY REFUSE TO ADMIT THERE IS A PROBLEM If it were me I would buy a set of Cobras or ant other exhaust before I bought from a company who refuses to stand behind their product. I know this doesn't help you Mac but I felt like venting Here is the post Jeff was referring to http://vulcanbagger.com/forums/showthread.php?t=34944

Really, you think it is OK for a company to just keep making defective products when they know damn well they are defective and won't admit it
