Has anyone installed an oil cooler on their Vulcans or know if we can with the adapter plate? I want to but am woundering about HLA setup on the Vulcan engine. It being hydralicly pressurized to stay pumped up.is there a point of minimal psi rating it can operate at or nust as long as the supply doesn.t stop theory. Functional at 50 to 75 psi or something like that.

Hey all, just a FYI, I now have 50,000 on the 07. It had 36,000 when the "fuel pump failed" on the way to the national in 2011. That's when my stubborness brought me to the discovery that the pump/filter/regulator assembly once removed from the tank can be disassembled and the filter/regulator assembly can be reverse flushed. I have done 5 other bikes now and gotten the same result on 4. One pump was completely dead when we took apart but the filter/regulator assemble was also plugged solid so i think that burned the pumbp out.
I am of the opinion that the fuel path sequence being Tank to pump to regulator to filter to injector is the cause of all our problems whihc are malfunctioning regulators (that are partially plugged and over work the pump. I think that cleaning of the regulator/filter assembly ever 24-36,000 miles should be part of everyones maint shed. Much like many bikes and cars require replacing the fuel filter every 24,000 - 36,000 miles.

I'd like to read or watch a detailed instruction on that reverse flushing Ross. I want to do that before next National. But then that $60 pump and filter assembly on ebay looks easier!

On the 05 to 08 Nomad the fuel filter (strainer) is an integral part of the pump. It is not available to purchase seperately. Not sure about the pre 05 pump.

roadhawg,
Looks like you and I have the same year bike so here is some info on the fuel pump/filter.I had my fuel tank apart a few times this past spring trying to figure out what was going on with my bike. www.gadgetjq.com/ff_replacement.htm However, the replacement fuel filter that he talks about did not fit in my tank so I just cleaned my filter as much as I could and put everything back together.

my fuel pump quit at 30000 new pump was 500 plus 250 labor.... I threatened to re-design/gut the Kaw pump and plumb in a Holley electric with a regualtor.. maybe mount it in the tool box area.... anyone done this.... do you think it's possible to gut the Kaw pump turning it into just a pass thru... I've never had one apart.

I'd try using one of the aftermarket replacements before I resorted to an external style pump.
