I would like to know what is the minimum speed that I can cruise on over drive ? if I want to set the cruise control ?
I know I can ride on fifth gear but 70 miles , I don't know maybe to much pressure on the transmission?

Im usually in top gear by the time Im doing 40mph, I can't see why the cruise wouldn't work then as well. I usually used my cruise on longer interstate rides but at 50 mph I never had a problem on it maintening speed.

I dont usually think about putting the cruise on below 100 kmph in
6th gear. Less than 90 kmph and the Voyager is struggling in 6th gear. To be honest I dont use the cruise often. Dont ride the superslab much. |

If I remember correctly, the cruise should work anywhere from 35mph-80 or 85mph. Shouldn't matter what gear your in. My 2010 doesn't like anything below 60mph in 6th.

the owner's Manual says it will maintain any speed between 30&85 MPH in 3rd 4th 5th or OD(6th) gear. When in 6th gear I do not use the cruse control under an indicated 65 MPH that would be about 62 MPH on my bike.

That seems awfully early to be in 5th gear, doesn't it?

Me too. If I get into 5 before 60 mph I feel like I'm lugging it.

On a 1600 I would agree. I don't know what the 1700's are like.

When I test rode a Vaquero at the National, They told us at the pre-ride talk not to use 6th below 70. I did get it in to 6th once or twice, but if the speed dropped much below that, the bike was not so happy and I had to down shift into 5th.

My bike has 6 speeds and I never use 6th below 80 or 5th below 70 as it doesn't make much sense for how it runs. It seems it gets better mileage too if I let it get in a certain rpm range as opposed to getting the rpms down as much as possible, such as using 6th at 60. I am sure it is the same with the 1700.

I put a Breakaway cruise control on my 06. It holds at nearly all speeds and gears. At 20 mph and below, sometimes it holds, sometimes it drops out.

The big deal is maintaining speed in wind changes and up and down hills. A breakaway can't do that.

True, but with a lot of wind changes and up and down hills, I'm probably not on cruise anyway.
