Italian Mosquitoes
My bride and I just returned from Italy and a Mediterranean cruise, celebrating our 25th anniversary.
We spent a couple days in Rome, Italy. The traffic was incredible. Most of the cars are very tiny...smart cars, Fiat 500's, etc. And then there are the scooters. There are as many scooters as there are cars. Every now and then a real bike would be in the mix. Our driver referred to the scooters as mosquitoes...car drivers always want to "squish" them. The scooters do not obey any traffic laws. They pass on the right, pass on double solids, speed, weave in and out...all sorts of crazy stuff. When you come to a red light, all the scooters proceed to the front of the line. When it's green, it's like a Vespa gang, minus the leather jackets. By the time you're at the third or fourth light, there could be 50 scooters jockeying for position at the head of the line. It was amazing. There is no moral to this story...I just wanted to share some of the crazy riding we witnessed. Thank goodness we don't ride like that here!
