Heel Guards for Vaqueros

One thing that annoyed me on my Nomad was that especially on the left side my boot heel scarred the cover of the transmission/crankcase and on the right side the clutch cover. I did install a heel guard on the right side but never could find one that would work on the left with the heel shifter.

Last week I investigated this issue for the Vaquero since the blacked out engine covers, I think, are more susceptible to the heel scratches and it will look worse than on chromed covers. I did some research and talked to Carl Miles at heelguard.com. He is the owner and inventor of the heel guards. I have no tie to his company. He was just very helpful and worked with me to come up with a solution. I sent him some photos of the floor boards and he sent me the parts that he thought would work. If they didn't he would take them back and refund the cost.

The long and short is that he was able to fix me up with both a left and right heel guard that will prevent scratching up the engine covers. Attached are a few pics. He makes them in chrome and black. I got the chrome ones as I prefer the look.

The ones I used are:

Left side 3011L : http://heelguard.com/Product_Detail.asp?ProductGroup=SS

Right side 1010R: http://heelguard.com/Product_Detail....oductGroup=TOS

One thing to note though is that you will/should cut a slot in your floorboards and the rubber board to mount them on top of the alu board between the rubber and floorboard. It takes some work but is not noticeable once installed. You could mount them under the floor board but I think it would not be as effective.

If you want more pics and details, PM me with your email address. I have a couple of pdf files with a lot of pictures of my installation.
