Opinions on Fuel Processors

Which one do you guys use/prefer and why for a 1600? Which one is the easiest to install?

Techlusion
Power Commander
any others?

Opinions on Fuel Processors

I use the Cobra FI2000R (PN# 92-1963 ~$200). It was easy to install, just remove the seat and unbolt the tank. Raised the rear of the tank up about 4" and unplugged the fuel injector connectors and plugged the Cobra harness in between.

My main objective was to richen the mixture to alleviate pinging and hopefully, make the bike run a little cooler. If I gain some performance, that's just icing on the cake.

I've only had mine on for a few weeks and am still tweaking it to get everything dialed in. So, no conclusive data to report at this juncture.

I wasn't to crazy about having to re-map anything, that usually invlves time and money, i chose the cobra FI2000R because is a plug-n-play item, i have been running on it for about a month or so, i can't tell you how happy i am with that little gizmo, i am enjoying my bike truly for the first time since i bough it, at 72,500 miles, i rode it up to sequoia this past sunday, hit areas of about 102-103 degrees, no pinging whatsoever, I wanted to see what the bike can do, so i pushed it up to 120 miles/hr. plenty of power and i felt that i could go a little faster, some people might argue with that, but it is the honest truth. and i still seemed to be getting about 40 miles per gallon., the nice thing about it! you don't mess with the factory settings, should you ever want to sell the bike, you can just unplugg your computer,re-connect the injectors and no harm done, the bike reverts 100% back to all factory settings. good luck.


BTW. i ended with the pots at 1.5----4.5----0

I done a lot of research, and decided to go with the Techlusion TFI. It has more fine tuning capabilities than the FI 2000. Now I think you can get it in a "plug-n-play" set-up, mine was a hard wire install, but wasn't difficult to do. Unless you go to modifying the insides of the engine, the FI 2000 and the TFI would be the way to go IMHO. they both offer easy adjustments, and a little cheaper than the PC III (which requires hooking it up to a computer to change settings (maps) or a Dino)

Boy did you open up a can of worms! I had the PCIII - it didn't work out for me. I've got the Cobra Fi2000 now - it's a good little unit - maybe could have gone for the TFI - hindsight I don't know? I think for what it's worth either of the last two would be good - unless you are going for Highly Tuned High performance - high cost Dyno Tuning! Also, either of the last two if you tun the pot's to 0 it is back to original Factory settings so you can go as Wild as you want at any time!

I can't honestly answer this as both times I used the TFI with 4 pots, but always pot 4 was off.

Both were soldered in place near the ECU, on pig tails so I can pull it anytime I want.

I had the PCIII on my 1500 classic and liked it. As said, the adjustments are a little more difficult. I have a TFI on my 1600 Nomad and like it too. It's cheaper and adjustments are pretty simple. We just took a trip to eastern Tenn / western NC a couple of weeks ago and with V&H pipes, Caddman Mod, TFI and loaded ( and I mean loaded) down with 2 riders and large travel bag etc... I averaged 37.8 mpg's.

I also have the TFI.
Mileage went from 37-38 to 42-43. Bike runs better and cooler. Also using 89 octane instead of 93.....unless temp is over 90 and riding 2-up.

What's not to like.......

My 07 came with the PCIII installed on it. Runs great but I really don't know anything about it or even how it works. I will have to read up on it online.

Have a 2006. Bought it used from a dealer in March. Came with FI2000 and Cobra Slash Cut pipes. Don't really know much about the technical stuff. It's set at 3-5-0 and the Bike run's great although the pipes are a bit loud on acceleration/under load otherwise it's a great setup. Will probably do the Caddman if it won't effect the warranty. Turns out the Bike has an extended Warranty until May '09.

Well I know cadd runs the same thing. On the 01 he had one waiting when I arrived in Cal. It was slighty used, by another buddy of mine.. but I forgot if I ever knew why he ditched it.

Mt personal feelings are any modual since the days of the first TFI with 4 pots is going to work well. The Cobra with 3 pots being newer should work out as well as the TFI.

The PC III to me is a pain because you can sometimes have it forget, and need to do a map over. I guess you can hand tune these too, but so far as I know not many guys do that.

To me this one is a bit to fussissycated to suit me. I think it would get more out of having it on a high end in line 4 banger, set up for some competion, where really going anywhere isn't the norm..

We all pretty much put down some long miles I think... We don't really need fussissycated stuff to enrich idle to mid range mix, and to twist up the wick to be movin'.

The ECU is primitive by any standards.. It knows about 5 things, and thats it.

The PC III costs a lot more too, and I just don't see where the justification is going to be, unless you are a computer tech and like complicated little boxes.

The TFI and Cobra are You dial up the pot all by hand and test ride as you do, and I think there is less investment in over all time to get it right, and the right varries between individual riders.

Mine is set currently for long distance riding, and not to rocket from street light to street light, since there isn't a street light around for miles and miles..

I have the Cobra Fi 2000, Cobra true duals and no air intake mods other than K&N air filter, removing the solenoids and inserting the marble. I never could get rid of pinging (hard acceleration) by adjusting the Fi settings, but now that I have the 1.5 K ohm resistor on the air sensor, I can tweak the Fi module to get the engine to run great; no pinging (even with 89 octane) and no popping on decelleration. The Fi module by itself and the resistor by itself did not produce the results I wanted, but both together are working great even with our 100+ degree temps. The only drawback is, my gas milage has dropped to around 30 to 32 mpg. I'm willing to live with this as long as the bike runs the way it does.

There is a company that is owned by one of the Volusiariders.com fellas, named "Gman Industries". He makes the so-called "Bully Fuel Processor" - a shift-on-the-fly model with six modes, you can dial in more or less fuel at several stages (idle, accel, FOT) and tweak at what point each mode comes on. One of the easiest and most efficient fuel processors I have had the pleasure to own. He's working on a 1600 Meanstreak right now and will customize (dyno) the settings for the Nomad by September. It comes pre-set for 2 stages: Stage II for stock everything and Stage III for KN Filter and aftermarket pipes.

I would have considered the Gman Bully processor if they had one for the 1600 Nomad. I didn't want to wait any longer with the pinging problem I had, so I bought one that was available now.
