It could be that your battery is on it's last legs. May want to check the battery connections be sure they are clean and tight.

Clean your throttle body thorougly with a brush and cleaner like Chemtool or seafoam.

Bob and Scott gave you some good information. Also, run a high dose of chemtool or seafoam in the fuel for one or two tanks.

Adding Seafoam is good, but actually scrubbing out the throttle body with a toothbrush is much better. You should see a big difference.

I have put about 2000 miles on it which puts me at about 20,000. I have cleaned the throttle body but its been about a month ago... I am not sure amout the cold start sol... I will check... I did put the battery tender on it today and it seemed to help but at the first stop I had to turn it over twice to get it started... I am thinking I have to hold the starter 3-4 seconds to start it.. That may be normal but I would think a fi bike would start on just a bump of the starter...

I think your idle speed is too low, which is why it's dying on you. A dirty throttle body will drop your idle speed significantly. You need to clean both throttle body bores and the butterfly valves really thoroughly. Scrub them until they are shiny.

If everything above doesn't solve it, check your air filter. May need to be changed or cleaned if it is the original. Same with spark plugs if they are the originals.

The foam on the air filter that goes between the filter and cover has come off... I blew it out and cleaned the throttle body... I checked the plugs a few weeks ago and they looked good. If I go with a k&n filter with the V&H pipes will I need a fuel controller? Thinking I will just stay stock... I also turned the idle up some I hate not having a tach. The soloinoids are still there and have wires connected..

My 2004 Nomad 1500Fi was having a very hard time starting when I bought it, just like you described.
Everything mentioned above helped, and was desperately needed, but I think the biggest difference came after cleaning my K&N air filter.
