Rode 35 miles for a slice of pizza and then rode back home! Finally broke 600 miles on my vaquero. Weather, work, and back issues have kept me off the bike lately.

Thumbs Up

Just got back from a 1200 mile trip to ride around part of Lake Superior. First trip for the wife and I and first trip on the Vaquero. Got just over 40 mpg average for the whole trip. Weather in mid 70's and sunny. I think more of these trips will be in order, had a great time.

Me and the wife got back from a 1600 mile trip to the mountains of NC, Va, and WV. We had a great time, other than riding a few days in the rain. This was my wife's first trip. We are planning another one the first week of October.

Had a good time, great people!

31C here today we took a 5 minute ride to the ocean to get cooled down. Stayed there all day watched fishing boats come and go . The Bay of Fundy has the highest tides in the world plus its usually 10-15 degrees cooler with a nice sea breeze. I work on the ocean, it seems I just can't stay away from it. My wife keeps a jar of salt water in the fridge for me,when I am home for awhile I get hard to live with. She just opens the jar ,one good sniff and all is well.lol

Payson is only about 5000'. Flagstaff is 6910'.

Another good ride this time of year is from Wickenburg up over Yarnell Hill to Prescott, then continue on 89 N over Mingus Mtn to Jerome, which is a cool old mining town on the side of a mountain. From there you are only 25 miles from Sedona, and then you can ride through Oak Creek Canyon to Flagstaff.

You need to ride Hwy 191 from Safford to Alpine, also known as the Coronado Trail. It's the best ride in AZ. The stretch from Morenci to Alpine is 90 miles and takes about 3 hours because of the twisties. You go over 3 passes at ~7400', ~8400' and then ~9000'. We usually ride to Alpine, and then spend the night at the Tal Wi Wi Lodge just north of Alpine. The next day we go to Show Low and then either ride back through Payson (AZ-260) or through Globe (US-60). It's a great ride this time of year because the temperature is quite nice at those elevations.

When I rode down from Holbrook through Heber and Payson, I remember seeing elevation signs that were higher than 5000', so may be it wasn't Payson, I stand corrected. I have been to Sedona and Flagstaff.

A group of beemer riders went to Mt Lemmon yesterday. The meetup was at 8am in Casa Grande. I just didn't make it.

Yes, if you go east of Payson, up on the Mogollon Rim you are around 6500'+.

I wonder why they met at CG? Must have taken I-10 to Tucson, rather than 79 to Oracle Junction, then 77 into Tucson. That's the back way into Tucson and it is better than I-10, in my opinion.

Because the ride organizer lives in Casa Grande. I don't know the route they took as I didn't go and they met at the Chevron on 287 in CG.

GO AZ has a ride coming up:

10am is too late to start. Just saying.

I agree. That's one reason I quit riding with some groups. It's already over 100 degrees by then. I would want to be on my way home by 10:00.

I-10 between Phoenix and Tucson is not a fun ride. The speed limit is 75 MPH which is nice, but there is a lot of truck traffic. it's 2 lanes each way from Chandler to about Picacho, where it widens to 3. I'll take I-10 coming from Tucson and then bail out on AZ-87 at Eloy. 87 comes within about 5 miles of my house.

Do you like Mexican food, Jim? If you want to go for a ride, we should ride down to Tucson and have lunch at Mi Nidito. It's notable because Pres. Clinton ate there and it's been featured on Man V Food. The food is pretty good, too. It's about 100 miles from my house. Maybe when it cools down some? I'll show you the back way to Tucson.

We ride north and east of Phoenix this time of year, during the winter, we ride the Tucson and lower desert areas.

Anytime you want to go for a ride, give me a shout...As long as it's not brains or some other organ or weird animal, I'll eat it.

Good Night.
when we were on the skyline drive I took this pic. If you look between the horse sign and my wife you will see a deer. the sign should of been a deer crossing. We also seen two beer.
