Chuckster's Dual Plate Modification
I have a 2001 Nomad. I was thinking of installing the dual plates to my bike. Does the bike have 2 air filters in place after the modification is made? I already have Cobra True Duals and a TFI installed. Will the dual plates compliment the performance with the mods I have already made?
Thanks in advance. Login or Register to Remove Ads |

It requires just one filter on the right side. The left side dog bowl can be remove after the mod.
After opening up the air intake you'll notice ever more performance gain than with pipes or fuel processor.

I just installed a dual plate on mine. The right side will be where all the air comes in. The left side becomes a chrome decoration. With dual pipes and the TFI you will indeed see a quicker throttle response. There also seems to be more top end at higher speeds. I also think the motor is running cooler but it may be my imagination. It just doesn't seem as hot when I stop. you will need to fiddle with the TFI settings a bit and I had to bump up the throttle advance a little to start it in colder weather.

I already have the dual plate installed and about to pull the plug on a TFI. I noticed a difference even with debaffled stock pipes and can't wait to feel the difference once the goat belly gets the heave ho!! Cheers and ride safe ![]()

Craig --- If you use the stock dogbowls (intake covers) with the dual plate (as you normally would), you won't really see any visual difference in the bike. It will just suck (air) more. Once either of Chucksters intakes are on, you can do away with the left side stuff completely as well as the air tube that runs between the left and right sides (in between the jugs). The air tube is a bitch to remove but if you remove everything else first then use a Dremel to cut off one end, you can wiggle it out with only a few choice cuss words. I think it was easier once I pulled the tank off as it felt like there was more room to work (even though there really wasn't). If you're doing coasters at the same time, I would suggest you do those first as you can then remove all the air lines on top of the engine while you have the tank off. I'm NOT mechanically inclined (obviously) and I did the coasters and dual plate intake (using an aftermarket cover instead of the dogbowls) in about an hour (plus the time it took to run to the hardware store when I misplaced one of the vacuum caps).

Hi Chris, thanks for the info. As I mentioned, I have the dual plate already installed and I can feel the difference. Just bought a TFI off fleabay for around A$180 shipped. With the rain back here in Sydney again, I'll use the "no riding" time to pull the tank & do the coasters and ditch the reed valve plumbing plus the rest of the stock air intake junk (including the accursed crossover tube!!). I'll probably knock up a suitable bracket to hold the left DB as I do like the look of them on the bike as a matched pair.
Chuckster's DP intake.jpg My main reason for the post was to ask about the cobra 'True Duals', their sound, fitment, performance with the "Big Three" (intake/TFI/Pipes) and affect on MPG's. Plus pics on how they look. Cheers and ride safe ![]()

You don't need to remove anything intake wise you don't want to. As long as Joes intake plate bolted on with everything else in the way, I'd leave it all alone. The only difference now is that the left side is now eye candy instead of housing the air filter.
