Memphis Shades batwing
I always seem to have a topic that doesn't fit anywhere. Wanted to give
a vendor props for a very nice product. Memphis Shades delivered on every count. I ordered a batwing fairing for my girlfriend's Yamaha Vstar 650. The piece was very nice. Excellent fit and finish. All the pieces/parts were there. Packing was excellent and made for the part. This is a good company with a quality product. It went on super easy and only took about 30 minutes. I really like the way it turned out and only wish they made one for my bike. They make one for a 2001 Nomad 1500 with fuel injection, but not for my 99 carb'd bike. What's the difference? Who knows, but it specifically states it only fits FI bikes. Anybody successfully put one of these on a 99 carb'd bike? Anywho.........here's a photo of her scoot.

Looks good on that bike! I started out with a 2007 model, so I can't answer your question.

That V-Star looks all grown up. Nice job!
I'm wondering why there would be a difference between FI and Carbed? Doesn't make sense to me. ![]()

Is that just the outer fairing? What's the back-side of the fairing look like?
I'm looking at eventually putting a fairing on my Nomad, but I think I want one with a stereo and some gauges in it.

This one isn't setup for a stereo. I'm not interested in having tunes (I know......crazy right)? There's no inner fairing or back side. Do a search on this forum for Reckless, Sport Tech, Kuryakyn or Premeux. There are tons of posts. Reckless offers some great savings for board members too. If I can't get a Memphis Shades to fit, I'll probably end up doing a Reckless. Those seem to be the ones most the guys that have stereos go with.

Another popular fairing is the stock Harley Davidson Electra Glide fairing. Not a direct bolt on but with a set of Chucksters brackets, pretty close. I'm going to fit either a Road Glide or Tour Glide shark nose on mine. :)

i have my review for my Memphis Shades fairing for my 06 nomad and its not so nice, the overall fit, look and function was fine, however, i did not like the fact that i had to go buy all new bolts if i still wanted to use the factory lowers, and i also did not like the fact that the seal around the headlight was pretty much nonexistant, i fabricated my own piece of polished aluminum to fit in there and sealed it up with gorilla tape so no air comes thru, without it its almost like you have no fairing so much air comes up thru it, and now after barely a full season i stopped for a break on a ride and there it was, a 10" long crack right up almost center from headlight towards the windshield, nothing hit it that i could tell, so $300+ bucks and right now the strongest part of the whole thing is the gorilla tape holding it together, so i aint buying another Memphis Shades fairing, not happy, i ll stick with this one for a while then move on to another brand maybe next season so thats my review of the Memphis Shades fairing! |

Thats a shame to have that happen. I had a real nice plexi-fairing on my Honda 750 and a tree hit it in the driveway one day. Couldn't find the company listed any more, I heard that Memphis shades had bought them and they discontinued the style I liked. On the bright side, people stopped calling me the "Plastic Crusader". LOL

I have had a memphis shades fairing on my 2006 nomad for over a year now with no problems .Had it painted to match also .finding longer bolts to remount the lowers was not that big a problem. The seal around the headlight is an issue but I adjusted the fairing as close to the headlight as possible

The thing I like best about it is the general shape of it. It's got a round cut out for a round headlight and it's more streamline looking. Most the others I've seen have a square headlight cut out......Can't figure that one out. Also the fact that I don't really want a stereo and won't end up with big gaping stereo holes with nothing in em. I called the company and spoke with a representative. They don't have a batwing that will fit my bike. I'm bumming. Guess I'll have to go reckless or something.

You can install a batwing fairing from Memphis Shades using the hardware listed for the FI model on a carb'd model. I installed the fairing using the FI hardware. There is no difference in the front of the bikes. I hope this is helpful. Also, if you want to add some tunes later, you can install the Hog Tunes audio system for use with an I Pod or MP3 player.
