Heavy rain caused Nomad problems.

Those that was at MV remember the monsoon rain we had Wed. Ken and I were at a restaurant when it hit and I was actually wondering if the bikes would blow over in the parking lot. Anyway, we left when the rain slowed and went back to the motel.

I have some blue ancillary lights on my bike. I had not turned them on but when we parked at the motel I noticed some of them were on. I check the switch - it was in the off position- turning to on position made the blue lights come on brighter. So out in the rain and dark Ken just took the seat off the nomad and disconnected the battery. Thurs morn he was able to just disconnect the ancillary lights.

But then I put my key in the ignition...oops remember something needed to put in saddlebag. My key would not come out of the ignition! Ken pulled and pulled and finally got it out...we noticed the key had water on it. A couple of more tries and the same result...difficult to pull out....water again on the key we had dried off.

So Ken went on his bike got a can of air spray and can of some kinda of electrical dry out stuff. That did the trick.

I never had that ignition key deal before. Guess my nomad no like being drowned. :-/

Lots of parts that aren't waterproof on bikes. One reason I don't like to ride in the rain or leave it parked in the rain.

I hope parts are waterproof on bikes, I have gone many long days riding in the rain. The days are longer when it is raining! I even use water to occasionally make room for new bugs. I would go over the wiring for your blue lights pretty carefully if rain is shorting it out. Shrink tubing over connections is a good thing.

The light switch or ignition switch may be worn and on its way out, Lubricate the ignition switch and check that it feels ok in all the positions.

Heavy rain caused Nomad problems.

My Nomad got wet last Friday.

Thurmont was bright and sunny when I headed down to Frederick around 4pm last Friday. About halfway there, I started to feel spalshes of water. The sky was now overcast, but still bright, I thought that the guy in front of me was using windshield wiper spray, or that I was catching his ac condensation.

Eventually, I realized that I was catching residual rain that was blowing in from somewhere. Hmm. Could it be those very dark clouds that I was now approaching? Why yes, it was.

I started calculating where the next bridge was and if I should try to make it there without stopping to put on my rain gear. Hating to put on rain gear in hot, humid weather, I opted for the bridge. About a half mile before it, traffic came to a stop from normal rush hour AND the rain got heavier. I pulled onto the shoulder and raced (carefully) to the bridge. Made it just as the sky let loose and added hail for good measure. I was soaked from the knees down, but generally in good shape.

When the rain stopped, traffic on the highway was backed up, so I decided to cut through town. Did some innovative riding while navigating flooded streets and avoiding the waves being thrown up by oncoming cars.

Nomad didn't complain once.

That's a possibility cause I've been out in heavy rain on this bike many times before and this had never happened. Will check out ....thanks.
