When worn?

When you begin hitting the wear bars you'll see in the tread grooves. But I believe that if it looks worn, replace it.

This was my rear tire. I don't see any 'wear band' either?

The wear bars are long gone on that tire.

When it goes flat?
OK, OK, I know you said no smart $SS answers but that is just not possible with that soft lob you through over the plate.

Look for cupping as well. Cupping can occur well before the tread life is over.

When worn?

I have ridden 126000 + miles using 5 different bikes in the last 6 years, and have gone through a number of tires. I would like to add to this post that when you get "close" to the wear bars, the rubber seems to get softer. They wear down real fast at this point. So, if you are close to the wear bar and considering a trip of any length, get the tire replaced.

Geeze Bull, sign me on to yer guns ok? Man that tire is a sin.... You rode right thru the wear bars and all tires have wear bars. All yer cages have tires with wear bars too!

It ain't a strip around the tire it's bars across the treads.

To find any look at the ft tire because it's easier. Take a coin, and if that coin is a American Penny, Lincolns head will pop up even on a new tire never ridden. Just follow the grooves and you will find the wear bars.

With a tire lookin like that the recession you should worry about is getting a lot smaller and busted into many pieces. That's why I run a Ct on back. By now i would have worn out 3 more rears.

Well, what better way to tell if it's a bias or radial, eh?

The fastest way to tell, is pour out a bucket of bleach on pavement, and pull a burn out with the ft brake locked
