Windshield modification
Just want to share what I did to save on my aggravation.
The Nomad windshield has a "sub" windshield that is designed to slide down as you raise the main shield. I'm 6'4 and I've always liked mine at the lowest setting. I've found that debris, dirt, and bugs get between the two shields and it's a nightmare to clean. Taking the windshield apart is about the only good way, and let's face it, Kawasaki spared NO parts in the windshield hardware. Must be about 20 different nuts, bolts, rubber spacer etc. I simply removed the sub shield and cut (jigsaw) two spacers from it, keeping the original length but only wide enough to fit behind the chrome bracket, to retain the stock mounting hardware. I now can clean both sides of the shield to a sparkling luster with no headaches. Hope maybe this gives a few of you some ideas. I now have "one" piece of windshield Login or Register to Remove Ads |

Tossed mine too. It's pretty pointless imo.

It does get to be a pain. I took mine apart one time and what a headache getting it back together. The engineer that came of with that ought to have to clean ever Nomad owner's windshield at least one time.

Good idea. Yes I also took mine apart...never will again unless it is to toss it! Cee Bailey might be in my future.

I also removed the lower piece. Didn't toss but doubt I can find it around here. Hate that thing!
Replaced the windshield early last year with shorter one I can see over from Rifle. Twice as thick as the stock shield and cost was around 150.00 if I remember correctly.

Jim, I'm just out side Memphis, near Oakland. And guys I'm so glad to see others are as frustrated with that darn sub windshield as I. After 3 years of fooling around with it, I had to toss it.
My main windshield is in great shape but I've been looking at a replacement. Any of you ever use the one from Clearview? You can get them 3 different sizes and they all come 2" wider. Some are re-curved at the top and you can even get them with a vent installed. Any feedback? |

Quite a few of us have the Clearview shield.
I have 2" wider and curved up at the top. Does not stop all the buffeting but is much better than stock.

I took mine off too (the windshield, that is). It seems pretty pointless if you ask me to have that thing on there. I think that was a waste of Kawa money at the engineering stage.
