Motor Cop Gets Hit

This kind of stuff really grinds my gears. "Making a dangerous left turn". That's all. It doesn't matter that a motorcyclist is injured or killed in many cases, it was just a dangerous left turn. Same as if the motorist hit a car and nobody was injured. There needs to be an additional component in these collisions, such as "dangerous left turn resulting in bodily injury", how about "failure to yield right of way"?

Two lane road and a left turn in front of oncoming traffic. You can bet that the bike had a headlight on so it should have been visible. There needs to be some serious charges here.

Motor Cop Gets Hit

You know not trying to play devils advocate but maybe it just boils down to sh*t happens.
I know there have been times where I went to change lanes and there was a car riding right next to me when I started too, granted I saw/heard them in time to not run into them..... but like I said... sh*t happens.
I doubt very seriously the guy was drunk or the article would have said so and he would be strung up by the balls being it was a cop. I doubt he started out his day trying to find someone on a bike or even a car to cut in front of.

It sucks, its bad but it sounds like it was an accident, and they happen.

Some older drivers just aren't attentive enough. There comes a time when people should give up driving or riding a motorcycle. That was probably what happened to the 72 year old driver. I am sure he probably wasn't texting. If it had been a younger driver I would say texting!

Of course the driver didn't leave home with the intent of hitting a motorcyclist, it was an accident, which is why they shouldn't charge the driver with attempted murder. But the driver should be charged with something more than making a dangerous left turn.

You think? Totally totalled. According to the article, the cop became an astronaut. I am glad he got to go home.

Motor Cop Gets Hit

When anyone over the age of let's say 65 is involved in an accident like this their driving ability should be re-evaluated. I have seen too many old drivers who should not be behind the wheel. We don't like to step on anyone's freedoms in this country so stuff like this happens.

We had a guy who was in his 70's as a member of our Blue Knights chapter several years ago who was almost blind. His eyesight was so bad that I followed him home one day to make sure that he would be okay and as we headed up a wide open 4 lane road on a mountain pass he kept changing lanes ahead of me. When we got to the top he pulled over and I asked him what the lane changes were about.....he said he could not tell if there was a semi in front of him..!!!!!!!!!! We voted on it and took his colors. The chapter was full of active police officers who witnessed plenty of other incidents of his bad driving but they would not file an official complaint to have his eyesight checked to see if he should be driving. In Idaho that request must come from either a close relative or a LEO. It surprised me that they would not turn him in even though they all agreed that it would have been the right thing to do.

Who knows, maybe this is the case of the one in this thread. Without an investigation we will never know.

Motor Cop Gets Hit

A 76 year old woman received a 5-10 year sentence for failure to yeild, death resulting. The case took three years. She was sentenced last month. The rider had wife and two small children when he was killed. Justice was painful with this one.

Seniors that have lost their vision or judgement seems to be too common around here. Ive been to the mall where it takes them ten minutes to get out of the parking spot, then they stop for green lights as well.
