Question about belt drive
Is the belt supposed to ride dead center in the rear sprocket or is it ok to be touching one side or the other?

Question about belt drive
Top Cat. my owner manual does not say but I did go out and look at my belt. on the rear pully on the right side there is about 1/32" between the belt and pully flange on the left side it is about 1/8" between belt and pully flange. also belt is very tight, almost no give.I, can see belt and reach it from the high side of bike when the side stand is down. I, get oil drain plugs out and change filter from high side to. My bike is a 2010 Nomad.

Question about belt drive
I see I called the sprocket a pully. I Had a 2009 900LT and the belt on that ran no space that i could see against the left sprocket flange and also very tight. Ilooked at the other 900 models on showroom floor and thay were all that way.

Question about belt drive
I doubt you could ever get the belt to ride in the center without touching one of the sides. Touching the side should be fine unless its rubbing so hard that something is out of alignment or you see the belt fraying on the side. Those belts normally last a 100,000 miles or more.
My pal has about 110,000 miles on his Ultra with the original belt. Usually when you replace the belt you also replace the two pulleys as well.

Question about belt drive
Thanks guys.
Ripper, yes that is the bike I was curious about. My wife has a 2010 900 LT and the belt is riding against the left sprocket flange. So I guess that is the norm. Steve, I didn't realize the sprockets wore out on a belt drive, that's good to know, Thanks.

Question about belt drive
TC on my Yamaha Roadstar the belt rode on the left side but it can move I know I looked at it one time and it had moved over to the right. But if you make sure the rear wheel is tracking straight and the belt is adjusted right the belt and pulley should last a very long time.

Factory specs call for 3.0-4.5 mm (.012-.018 in) although many agree this makes the belt too tight. Seems that most everyone runs theirs a bit looser.
