A picture of the trunk might be helpful here. Kind of hard to visualize without one.

What does rattling mean? For example, is it rattling because it doesn't latch the trunk lid tight, or is the upper or lower portion of the latch loose at it's attachement points to the body of the trunk? You may just need to apply some weatherstripping on the underside of the trunk lid or the top edge of the body of the trunk to create a tighter fit- if that's where the problem lies.

If it's a nice quality trunk, I say trash it in a box, addressed to my house. ;)

Oh and when I say "trash it", I mean, gently place it in a box with plenty of padding and I'll even pay for the shipping charges.

Start with doing things with no mind for cosmetics...try various things like stuff a fewsmall foam pieces between the lid and trunk to see if it helps when closed....do likewise with bits of foam or little pieces of something like an old timey mason jar washer or sliced up old innertube...

If all that fails, hire an acrobatic dwarf on roller skates to pull behind your bike while wearing a stethescope and have him/her watch and listen..Best to do this on real bumpy roads to put the rattling thing through the paces...

Also, please tell us the make and model number if you have no photo so we can go out and image/google it...

Last resort...Caulk with silicone...it won't open anymore, but you will get rid of the rattle, I guarantee it..

I know what you mean, I have one of those "cheaper" style trunks and the latch drives me crazy (er ). I too am looking for a remedy , but won't worry about it until Spring.
