Two Piece Side Covers

Is there a reason that the side covers are two piece? I'm repainting my bike and I'm considering painting the black lower part. Does anyone see a reason why this would be a bad idea or know why they didn't come that way?

I don't know why the lower piece is not painted the same as the bike. My green and silver bike has green side covers, but that lower part is black.

Paint it if you like any color you want and on or off the top part.

Thanks mac. It seem to me that there is no reason that the side cover has two pieces and that one piece/mold would have been easier for the manufactures...

I don't know why either. Maybe the lower section is flat black so they just blend in with the frame, etc.

I had chrome side covers on for awile and they were one piece.

You guys pay too much attention to detail. I didn't know they were two piece. I will have to go out and smoke a cigarette and check it out.

I forgot about that. I went out and looked and I remember seeing it now. Possibly so if things come up and hit it, it won't be noticed being flat black colored. Just a thought.

My best guess is all 1600's have that black as stock, but only one color per model year other than black is made.. So it would be harder to paint a color and leave that lower part still black.

I don't recall if the 1500's had a 2 piece side cover or not..
