Do you pack a Gazetteer?

Some of you may not have ever heard of a Gazetteer Map. Personally, I don't leave home without one... ever.

Ever cruise down the road and wonder where the road you just passed might lead you?

Get a Gazetteer Map of your state; or of the state you plan in traveling in and you'll begin to find some of the best roads to ride in your area -- or where ever else you're traveling.

Gazetteer explained: A Gazetteer Map is a map of each state divided in to small sections. These sections are numbered and coincide with the page numbers of the book.

Simply go to the page you want to look at and you will find every single road in that area - and I mean every single road. These sectionals also provide topographical information as well.

A regular map does not come close to providing the detail of the sections as a Gazetteer does.

I often hear the question; "How did you ever find this road"?

Well... now you know.

Check out your local WalMart for your state's Gazetteer -- they typically carry them.

Otherwise you can get one directly from the publisher:
http://shop.delorme.com/OA_HTML/DELi...?section=10096

Hope this helps to make some your travels more enjoyable.

Oh, it's like the Thomas guide for a city, but covers an entire state. I may have to look for one.

Do you pack a Gazetteer?

One of my Harley riding buds turned us on to this map. We have one for Texas that is just about worn out. One thing I learned (accidently) was to pay very close attention to the little, barely visable red roads. These can offer some of the best riding on the map.

If you buy the software from Delorme you can print your own maps of the area you want to ride.Or If you have the pn/20 you can carry it with you and have all the maps for multiple states. You can also plane routs on your home pc and load them into the p/n 20. I also have a few of the Gazetteer maps.

Do you pack a Gazetteer?

I hope each of you get one for your state so you can begin to see what you might be missing. Just start looking at the details of the areas you would like to ride and I believe you'll find some great roads (there may be exceptions to those in Nebraska and Iowa since I am not too sure those two states have many side-roads that aren't straight. No offense for those in those two states -- I could be wrong.)

Sarge added some good additional info on DeLorme's products.

Anyway -- ck out the website and go to Walmart and pick one up -- especially for you guys (and gals) that live in states with some topography variances!!

Do you pack a Gazetteer?

I have one now. I used to see them at Walmart all the time. Couldn't find one if my life depended on it the other day. Ended up at Barnes and Noble, $19.95.
